Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

They are gonna have to accept that putting restrictions is the only way to have a continuous service. That should already have been put in place and accepted a long time ago. A few questions on that matter: How is capacity defined for an airport, for a tower position and for a sector (radar)? How do...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

On the main page is an article about a near collision in South America, the ATCO immediately blames the high workload. During peak times in Brussels, the stress in the voice of some ATCOs is clearly recognisable, I honestly think we should not put more pressure on them in order to cover up manageme...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Phoenixx, let’s go and have a drink together to talk about it :) I like your passion for your job. We might even be able to find a few acceptable solutions after a few beers :) To keep it short if other people are still following: - your buffer at the shift turnaround does NOT exist as people are le...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Mvg- the salary is not relevant, unless you want to paint the image of a spoiled brat. You could pay ATCOs a million a day, they still would be unable to work 8 days a week. The same about a ruined holiday, the question is: do you want your holiday starting a day later or do you want to put your li...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

@SR20

Apologies for that misunderstanding.

And it was an interview by RTL-TVi so it could be that it was a fake controller who gave false figures. Better be careful ;)

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

For the people/companies impacted by the strikes it is important to have a complete overview of the situation and salary is part of it. Can we at least agree on those figures ? I don't have any problem with those figures. It looks consistent with those published by Eurocontrol. I didn't check for o...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Yes. Atco’s salary is divided into three parts: - basic, paid monthly - premies/extras, paid monthly - end of the year + holiday bonuses, paid yearly 5100€ is a common basic salary for an Atco with a few years experience in CANAC. Premies/extras are (amongst others) the Sunday’s or public holidays h...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

@ Phoenixx To answer briefly your (very appreciated) posts. For the night counting for two days (for rostering purposes), there is no rule, as you say. In front of a judge, I wouldn't bet much on your chances to win on that matter. Let's see... About the CEO's way to do things: we all agree. With sw...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Referring to a previous post about salaries, a few days ago a controller was interview by RTL-TVi. During his interview he complained that he was working too much (amongst other things). Fair enough. But he also mentioned salaries of 6000€, which shows that the figures given earlier were correct for...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Hi Phoenixx, First I would also like to thank you for your inputs, your patience and also the way you write your posts. Reacting now on your last post regarding the rules set by Europe. These are guidelines and they are indeed not sufficient. Like for pilots it should be the same rules everywhere (s...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Even if politics decide to go ahead with such project it is very unlikely to happen because German controllers (just an example) will have to be trained by those who are qualified now on those sectors... Do you think that they are going to cooperate to have Germans taking over their job?

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Dispo is at 57 (if full career), salary 4500€ after tax until the pension at 67 (3500€ after tax) @Bracebrace Not every Atco can sit anywhere in the world: many have tried and most of them have come back (either they failed or found the conditions too hard abroad). Those who stayed abroad had privat...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

A night from Saturday to Sunday and one from Sunday to Easter Monday (considered as a Sunday as it is a bank holiday) are the best paid shifts... Just saying :) Let’s hope they find solutions anyway. But with the same management and the same controllers, if the people are not changed, it’s just post...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

There is also a login system on each working position for licensing/currency purposes (a minimum of hours is required per position per certain period). Each controller can see how many hours he/she has effectively worked over the last months/year. It would be very interesting and it would put an en...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

How come that in such a sensitive activity as air traffic control the management cannot know for sure who is present and who isn't? They can, or at least they could. Access control is rather strict in Steenokkerzeel, as it should be, everybody needs to "badge" to enter and to leave. It do...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Phoenixx and SR20, one more question: It appears that last week there was a proposal on the table from the social mediator where management agreed to introduce a 32-hour working week instead of the current 35-hour week. But I heard that the trade unions have rejected this because management only wa...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Hi Phoenixx, About what you mentioned about the training I would like to mention a few things: - it doesn’t take (or at least it should not) take 9 months to train an Atco on the job in Canac. For an ab-initio, yes, but not for an Atco who has worked Tower before and is already used to working. Trai...
