Re: The Jetairfly Boeing 787

I don't think this is correct. In China the separation is 300m and not 1000ft. 13100m is 42980ft so there is no need for a level 431. I think 431 is the level they achieved during certification. I forgot the upper limit of RVSM airspace (my mistake), it is true that at this moment the flight level ...

Re: The Jetairfly Boeing 787

It also has incredible performance at high weights. Close to MTOW, you could already climb up to FL360/380, while a B767 would be stuck at FL340 or something like that. FL360, is that max, or taking into account cg position and some turbulence margin? Modern widebody twinjets are amazing. The max t...

Re: The Jetairfly Boeing 787

Companies prefer short flights for training because it accelerates the training and pilots can be "released" from flying with instructors a lot quicker in time. Spending 7 hours in cruise for line training is a waste of time, especially if you have 13 other pilots waiting to do the same th...

Re: Why not rio for brussels airlines as next destination

I think people here underestimate the way the country Brasil thinks and works - politically and economically. The country protects itself from foreign influences like no other country does. Brasil is a country of opportunities, oh yes, and maybe SNBru could start a Brasil flight... But you are looki...

Re: National Air Cargo crashed in Bagram, Afghanistan

The high angle of attack is not the same as high angle of climb. The angle of attack for a max rate of climb and max angle of climb are pretty close to eachother (they are not the same but close enough to be fairly unidentifiable by the human eye in a video like this). There is a difference in speed...

Re: Light aircraft crash at Charleroi, 5 casualties

Clear sky? with visibility 1800, and BR ? Excuse my skepticism. Because many pilots tend to forget this, a "positive instructional" point of view ;) : It's a common misconception, but 1800m is a horizontal visibility. You can have perfect blue sky on days with "1800 BR" if the l...

Re: Three Ryanair "emergency" landings in Valencia on same d

I didn't expect KLM to be mentioned here, because it's a company you could use as a very nice example of how fuel efficiency can be increased, by going even further than what Ryanair is doing. I don't know all the details, but from what was told me: KLM uses an active fuel monitoring program where f...

Then how come forums overthere are full of people who used to be in a big airline, who are still sitting at home waiting to be re-called back in by their employer?

Re: 700 jobs threatened at Brussels Airlines?

Don't be to quick to think the "east" is where the sun is shining. It's a different region, a different culture, different companies. Your life contains much more than the seat you will be flying in for at least 90 hours a month and the money you get for it, but many only realize it after ...

Re: Three Ryanair "emergency" landings in Valencia on same d

Those are basically all ZERO uplifts, when taking into account the bigger picture at MAD. Taking into account the FULL bigger picture you also need flight plans details, to be exact: mentioned routings like SID's, STAR's, inflight. Not to mention the 5% contingency you hardly ever use over Europe b...

Re: Three Ryanair "emergency" landings in Valencia on same d

Tolipanebas mentioned 10€ to transport an extra 200kg? That's two passengers and luggage. Fuel-wise it only costs 10€ to transport two extra passengers on the flight? Ok. Fine (now I understand why Ryanair can sell cheap tickets) So maybe that's true (I'm not kidding), take 10€ a flight... calculate...

Re: Three Ryanair "emergency" landings in Valencia on same d

And how much of that 800kgs did you need at the end? Because everybody talks about taking extra fuel, but ask any pilot how many times that extra fuel he took was actually needed and not many will have an answer. Take a Ryanair fleet of 200 aircraft on the European network, they do 3 rotations or 6 ...

Guess many of the things I wrote have been written down already, missed a page... But reading you are a pilot really scares me, honestly. With all respect. We check and crosscheck to spot errors, we do our best to put safety first, we cooperate with many people and we try to do it in a "just sa...

Re: Incorrect de-icing of Brussels Airlines airplane in Rome

Flanker, pilots do use the philosophy behind the FAA ruling. The initial lines you quote are rules that pilot do put into effect. They reasoning behind it is that pilots should be aware of worsening conditions after de-icing has been done which can always lead to the fact that pilots, even after de-...

Re: Public strike on Thursday 22 Dec: what about BRU?

From what i've heard from some of my colleague flight crew members, those on duty will perform their duties as planned, those who are not on duty will or will not attend the strike in brussels. so we DO care about our pax as this has nothing to do with the airline but with the government. Re: A320 engine wouldn't start --> external truck used?

Using APU in flight is a sign of a bad day, though it can save it. Just ask Capt Moody, commander of the Flying Ashtray, B747 that flew through volcano ashes at night that killed all four engines. APU and some windmilling enbaled starting the engines again. Is that stated in the report? I never rea...
