Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Phoenixx, thank you for that great explanation. If all of them were like you, things would have been different from the start.

About the wrong management: you are correct.

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Hi H.A., I do confirm and could have added examples with callsigns/dates/times, but then you would have looked at rosters and pointed at individuals which is not the aim here. And if you would have read my post carefully, I wrote that that it was possibly coming from a lack of training, decent refre...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Hi B737MAX and the others, Yes we could discuss endless about this subject. We have all said what we thought and the reality must be somewhere in between like usually. It also much depends on our situations, what we compare it to. Let me answer your points though: - unlike pilots, when an Atco is on...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Senior aviation journalist Luk De Wilde is a moderate person and he doesn’t tweet “one-sided information”. He expresses what (almost) all other responsible parties in the whole aviation and travel industry think about these ongoing strikes: it’s scandalous. You have surpassed a limit that is unacce...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

So, the Germans take over the work of the sick Belgian ATCO’s? No it’s only a corridor that links Liege TMA with Germany, in other words Liege Approach will be connected to Germany bypassing Brussels ACC. Traffic will be able to land and depart but a very reduced rate (less than 10 per hour). Bette...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Hi Phoenixx, Thanks again for the long answer. I think we will leave it here about the solutions. You are right that they should have been implemented a long time ago. But it has been obvious for years that vectoring could have been done from the tower. It was in front of everyone’s eyes but the Atc...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Hi atcofi, I am not attacking your swaps. Only saying that you have a package with a salary and other advantages. When you compare you have to compare your package with what others have. Your classical comparison is your salary compared to those abroad for the same job but you never mention that in ...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Hi Phoenixx, Reading your posts and others is very interesting. We could indeed discuss hours and blame controllers and/or management but in your analysis I think your are forgetting some important things. - You compare your salaries with pilots but from what you answered don’t want their conditions...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

@ Phoenixx Thanks for the long explanation. There are problems for sure. Let me answer 4 points you mentioned (some are true, others i think less) because they are important: - there has never been one leave day lost because it wasn't taken before the end of the year. Same is valid for compensation ...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

@ jan_olieslagers Of course it is not their only way of action and they are losing their credibility. But there is something unique with this job: they will never be all kicked out! An airline can hire planes and crews to fly for them, or they can put pax on other flights from other airlines, or the...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Good to have a controller on this forum! Thanks for that! Reading the comments on an article it would be interesting to read, there are understandable and less understandable things for the people who are impacted by your airspace closures: - Brussels tower is manned like you said, but that's not th...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

This Notam for EBLG is different than the one for ACC (CANAC) airspace closures. The one for EBLG means that only two Atcos are present for the morning and two for the afternoon shifts (or maybe one morning, one middle shift and one afternoon) EBLG Tower has to be manned by two Atcos at all times so...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Here is how a doctor's control takes place (true story - heard many times). The person got a sick note from his/her home doctor for 5 days. Control doctor comes to home and after some checks says: "You have to go back to work earlier than what your doctor said". Straight answer from the co...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

I see that the whole Belgian press is reporting about the closure of Belgian airspace at night, almost a daily feature in newspapers. It might be simpler to announce when airspace remains open the whole night! Some explanation from ACV/CSC representative : https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbi...

Also sorry to contradict you... But that rule is valid EXCEPT at night when “east” and “west” are sitting next to each other with ONE Atco working on each side...
(Approved by BCAA)
That’s what happens each night....

Nights are quiet on the WEST side...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

hi sean1982 and SN 26567 could you give some more info, is this from 23h30ZULU (01h30 local) until 02h30 Zulu (04h30 local), and what does this mean , no A/C can land at BRU during that period? There are still late arrivals at BRU airport the following days. Imagine you will be stuck on an airplane...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Question for our brave workers: You want one night to count for two days (it does) and to be paid for two days (it is). The rule says: sick leave for one day doesn’t have to be covered by a doctor sick note (only if it’s for two days or more). So why don’t you provide sick notes when you call sick f...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Staff shortage again and again? How the hell is skeyes managing its staff? Their HR manager should be fired on the spot! Although I have no special sympathy for Happart and Partoune, they are absolutely right: Liege Airport is sabotaged. They should start a suit against skeyes. It has nothing to do...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

The roster on Saturday evening is planned "short" as there is no traffic for such a night but there has to be more than one person sick to have such consequences. Moreover there are at least 10 atcos who are not working the weekend and can be recalled so that means that all of them said &...
