Usage of 747 in TNT fleet [fuel price]

TNT, which first wanted to buy more 747, decided to hold the decision because they "can't predict the price of fuel and the price of carbon dioxide emissions by the time the aircraft reach the end of their economic lives." Interesting article: http://www.flightglobal.com/blogs/aviation-and...

Re: Breaking news: Belgium will get new aviation tax!

Of course it will hurt everybody, but not because travel is more expensive, but more because concurence between countries will increase. We were all laughing when the dutch came with some tax, but now it's our turn. The problem is all different if it's a european tax. I don't think the 10 euro tax w...

Re: Breaking news: Belgium will get new aviation tax!

The tax is for sure not good for the economy of this region. Nor for other regions with an airport. The unemployment in charleroi is by far the highest, but at least they will less suffer from the crisis. Their economy is closer to the real economy than the service companies of flanders for example ...

Everything is falling. Dont focus on some narrow sectors.
Several thousand jobs were lost this month in Belgium.

Of course, I'm in the same case, but it's still fair to me.
It's still a privilege.

Re: Breaking news: Belgium will get new aviation tax!

They steal the money to those who are rich enough to travel. Looks fair to me. But there is a collateral dammage : the belgian airports will suffer. This kind of measure is stupid in a country where 80% of the population lives less than 1 hour away from the border, and a foreign airport. The lost in...

Re: Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news

source: http://www.lalibre.be/economie/actualite/article/452426/bientot-une-taxe-sur-les-billets-d-avions.html The gov is talking about a new tax, between 5 and 15 euro per flight per pax. This could be a very bad news for Charleroi, and Belgian airports in general. But neightbour countries do prepa...

Re: Liège Airport (LGG) latest news

for the first 8 months of 2008, LGG had 301.342 pax (+21%).
Nice growth again for the 3rd pax airport of Belgium.

I guess the strike in BRU and the fog in CRL helped a bit ;)

Re: Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news

The price is still quite ok ... until the day there is a train station in the airport.
To compare, LGG is between 10 and 14 euro a day (but increase are planned)
and BRU, between 17 and 22 euro.

Re: Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news

Good idea to open this topic.
A news that we didnt discuss a lot here is that the extention of the brand new terminal is not certain anymore.

I think it's a good idea to wait a bit ... the industry may change a lot, as fast as the finance industry ...

This topic is not about the result of the past, it's about the expectations. Totally "crystal ball" again ... You can't say about aviation "hit hard" when you have numbers -1% There is no crisis ... yet But yes, i'm also part of the people who believe the worse is yet to come. Le...

One more source in french, with a lot of details: http://www.lalibre.be/economie/actualite/article/444517/le-groupe-sncb-a-bord-du-tgv-fret.html It seems that the project is getting serious and that Liège is an important part of it.
