Re: Ryanair: Costs could be reduced by flying without Co-Pil
Oh please !!! Dig http://www.skybrary.aero/ on risk, human factors and safety management. Then do an airline pilot job for at least 6 months. Then, perhaps, you'll have a standpoint worth fighting for. But most probably by then you will have joined the group of the supporters of asymmetrical ...

Re: Emirates Cabin Crew jailed for sex texting
The safety culture at Emirates is so poor it's an accident waiting to happen. The Flight Data Monitoring programme is used against the crews to fire them, even for a simple go-around (which is a normal procedure after all). When recurrent training comes the sim checkride is done before the sim train...

Re: why is there a strike in france?
French ATC staff have a job for life and enjoyed privileges for decades. The trick is that these privileges (work 1h, get paid for 2.5h) will not go on with the Single European Sky, and have no legal foundations. Even the French Cour des Comptes recently published an incendiairy report against their...

Terrorism is all about the post-ops benefits and return on investment. In this case there isn't any. The guy is dead, his IRS file is closed, there's no fanatic right behind him to take the flag in his place, etc. Just a desperate guy doing desperate things in what seemed to be a desperate situation...

Re: KLM 737 takes off from taxiway at EHAM
Strange... - runway lights are white (turning red towards the end), taxiway lights are blue. - taxiways don't have an ILS (i.e. use it to confirm you're on the correct strip of asphalt). 36C doesn't have an ILS ? - most control towers now have radars precise enough to spot and identify any movement ...

SN/BruAir ? I wouldn't count too much on it. A crane on the tail... doesn't that remind you anything ? Yep, bingo !

Now a "tiger crane", mmmmh... In a dinosaur museum perhaps ?

Well, I suppose exactly the same way it landed on it. Just zoom along the runway until you reach liftoff speed. The tricky part must be the application of power by the taildragger.
Or a less chivalrous way: with a crane...

Does the pilot who landed on the caravan still have his pilot licence ? I just couldn't believe it if the FAA didn't dump his certificate into the paper shredder.

Flash Airlines (unfortunately) demonstrated that an inappropriate pairing of inexperienced pilots could smash an aircraft having no significant malfunction into the sea. Only the black boxes will be able to tell us what systems were hit and how the crew handled the emergency. The images from the sur...

De-icing accident: Turkish Airlines A343 at IST (24/01/10)
A Turkish Airlines Airbus A340-300, flight TK-60 (scheduled departure Jan 23rd) from Istanbul Ataturk (Turkey) to Bangkok (Thailand) with 237 passengers, was preparing for departure in heavy snowfall with about 2.5 hours delay at about 02:00L (00:00Z). Breaking news, CAA suspends all operations until further notice. Tickets are no longer offered for sale... Although they still have some heavy metal to twist and burn. I suppose their AOC was suspended after a few phone calls following the latest crash. A pretext used quite conveniently to make room...

The Kalitta accident report says: The accident was caused by the decision to Reject the Take-Off 12 knots after passing V1 speed. (...) In his statement, the pilot said “he was under the impression the aircraft could not fly” after he heard the bang. (...) Flight crews who have experienced an engine...

Re: Air Berlin jet slides off runway at Dortmund
By reducing the decision speed you can use smaller runways. The logic is: short runway, early warning, early decision, early abort, everyone gets out safe (but not necessarily happy). Getting an alarm past the decision speed (true or false) and stop the aircraft ? Yes, it will eventually stop, but p...
