And another one: as I have understood it, UA950 has made an unscheduled stop at BOS due to crew time out and was thus delayed into Brussels.

Re: BA B777 departs on too short runway

That's an explanation of my feet*. A person not confident of doing a proper job should never work at a control tower. That is to say, if at least they have a tower... I completely agree. This was a trainee ATCO and thus did not yet have the confidence to act on his own in such difficult situations,...

Re: BA B777 departs on too short runway

He saw they were at the wrong intersection, but "did not have enough confidence to challenge the crew's decision" and thought "surely, they must know what they are doing, knowing the performances of their a/c". And I doubt they have ground radar at an airport that doens't even ha...

Re: Jetair Fly expansion

I heard some rumours today that it was decided that JetairFly would acquire an additional 3 Boeing 787-800 dreamliners... My goodness, 3 is an awful lot more. That would mean 4 instead of only 1? 3rd, didn't know that JAF already had an option/order for a 2nd. 3 additional, not a third as I...

Re: BRU winter 2010-2011: latest news, routes, airlines

Hmm, that's strange indeed. Will try to figure it out... It seems they will be cancelling the afternoon flights (5 times weekly), indeed. But instead, they are also adding a nightstop flight to Brussels (6 times weekly), thus actually increasing the weekly services with one frequency overall. This ...

Re: No fly-zones above Belgium

Does the term no fly-zone only applies for (relatively) low overflying planes or also for planes at cruising altitude (>30k ft) ? It's mostly just a few thousand feet (let's say 4500ft will get you in a safe area in most of the places), but some are up to as high as FL240. Could you check the list ...

Re: No fly-zones above Belgium

Sankt Vith as well? Why ? Sankt Vith is listed as a CAS training area. It has a remark that says: "(1) Announced by NOTAM. May be active MON, 1230-1600; TUE to THU, 0830-1100 and 1230-1600; FRI, 0830-1100." And Elsenborn where they shoot with mortars, is it also in the list? Yes, it is. B...

Re: No fly-zones above Belgium

I know there is a no-fly zone above the royal palace in Laken (hence the difficult 07L approach in BRU), but are there also any other no fly-zones above Belgium ? Yes, there are plenty of prohibited flying zones in Belgium. Too much to name them all, actually. Just have a look at VFR map if you hav...

Re: CSA Czech Airlines ends UK service after 72 years

I guess they mean: they usually cancel this particular flight every time in January, but now they do it earlier. This is only 1 flight number, the others are operating as normal. So BRU is not going to be axed, rest assured ;-).

CSA Czech Airlines will cancel OK636/7 as from 01JAN11, and is thus reducing service to Brussels from 23 to 18 times per week.

Re: BRU 29/08/2010

What's the reason airlines switch to much bigger planes (fe 32x --> 343) when flying to BRU ? TK/AT/MS etc, they do it primarily for heavy demands in the holiday time. There is a big diaspora for these countries in Belgium and while the inbound flight is usually quite open, the outbound is packed (...
