Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

@Phoenixx I don’t agree with your view of the minimum service at all. There is no minimum service in Belgium. Listening to emergency frequencies and provide help to aircrafts in emergencies is not a minimum service. It is a legal obligation and the least you can do as professionals. One Atco (usual...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

A minimum service rule would indeed the solution to avoid that third parties are damaged in a social conflict (airlines, touroperators, passengers, cargo handlers). Portugal has such legislation. Apart from the above examples (NMBS/SNCB/TEC), Belgium has no “strike legislation”. The only legal refe...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

But in general, and I think it’s where controllers are wrong, there is a system with its advantages and disadvantages. We have been talking through it a lot. When that system puts Atcos into a position which they don’t like, they are protesting. When other employees from the company are faced with ...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Hi mvg, We disagree completely on the subject and we are starting to talk about different things, so to keep this thread on topic I Will stop answering to this part after this comment. 2/3 of the votes does not mean half from management and half from unions, 2/3 of the votes means all of management ...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

@Phoenixx I can understand your frustrations but this is the way Skeyes is functioning. Those rules have been set up (in laws) and the role of the unions is paramount. Management is indeed using those rules to have their proposals accepted but this is just what the game is about! Everyone uses the ...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Well the rules specify 2/3, because 2/3 +1 would be 75 percent already (9/12). Our CEO has goals in mind, and he wants to get there one way or another. There is nothing Christian or democratic about violating rules and laws and then changing them afterwards to be compliant. They are each others mean...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Yes, I think that is now generally understood by all who follow the matter. It only makes André's question more poignant: What is the origin (or "source") of such "news"? When this PC meets, there are 12 people voting the offer on the table. - 6 from the employer side - 6 from t...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

The mediators agreed with the trade unions not to continue with their sickess notes during the negociations. The union(s) didn't respect that, hence it was obvious for management that further negociations were just a loss of time. For atco's, "negociations" means "you have to give us...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

An open letter was sent from the atcos to the press today. Google translate produced this English version: Dear reader, Dear traveler, In recent days, various media have reported on the jamming of social consultations with skeyes, ex-Belgocontrol. The management, however, wants to find a solution ve...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

I didn't read everything, but this remark is a different discussion. Well, unfortunately this is the way aviation has evolved the last 30 years. Pilots, cabin crew, maintenance, desk people... we have all seen our working conditions deteriorate and it is not stopping. Unfortunately pilots and cabin...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

And you could have gone without the the implied insult or the wise quotes but here we are. If i compare what we have now, sure we have a good thing going. We work way too much and have to accept way too many violations, but yes. But compare that to where the CEO wants to go, and it's a whole other ...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

When a fish says he’s not a fish, does it make him less of a fish? When you’re in a situation for long enough its quite common to lose touch with reality. Im sure management doesnt need to play the mentioned card because when you honestly present your working conditions to the general public, many ...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

And do I even have to bother saying that the claim in the media that ACV-Transcom demands even less than a 32 hour week for even more money than the pay raise management supposedly offered is a blatant lie? We have a 35 hour weeks standard, during the past years, atcos had to take 4-5 extra shifts p...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

An agreement.on what ? If its really about staff shortage there is nothing to agree about... proof (if needed) that we are beeing manipulated by both sides. Well this started with a strike and continued with atcos saying 'screw your non stop growing demand for more flexibility and more working days...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Its time we stop with the borders from the middle age and create a central european unit... or is that so crazy ? They have been trying that for a long time... The reasoning is as logical as it is simple. The reality however is a whole different issue, and I don't think it's likely to change soon.

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

I would like to clarify something regarding these last posts; the cause for the flow measures. I can not speak for other ansps, but I can clarify what I know from experience in Belgocontrol. The management/hr/planning department plans for a certain number of atcos per shift, and these staff numbers ...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Has nobody been sick for the past three days? Isn't that a bit strange? The atcos that were sick or absent for an extended period still are. There has still not been a single irregularity found in this. No media reports does not mean all is well or everyone is cured. Skeyes stopped reacting when th...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Hi Phoenixx, About Liege corridor, whoever has to decide is it’s open, he is not gonna say “no” if it helps Liege staying open. I meant that that procedure could still be activated to lower restrictions on CANAC east for traffic to Brussels for example. If CANAC doesn’t have to take care of inbound...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Very interesting, Phoenixx, thank you for the answer (which isn’t surprising). The “capacity vs staff” is the main issue, if we look at whole picture because with a staff shortage like you have now, if the capacity is defined reasonably according to how many Atcos are present per shift, this is wor...
