Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

It is logic to save the biggest airline in Belgium. It is the biggest player at Brussels Airport which is the second biggest employer of the country. And as already said before, it seems unlikely that the gap of Brussels Airlines falling away will be filled immediately. I think the cost of taking ov...

Re: Impact of the coronavirus crisis on aviation

For me it seems rather logic to do as much as possible to help all Belgian airlines. First of all, they guarantee quite some direct and indirect benefits to the Belgian economy. Secondly, why would the government only help restaurants and hotels in Belgium if there aren't any Belgian airlines bringi...

Re: EC Regulation 261/2004: news & court verdicts

What exactly do you mean with this question? Do you mean that coronavirus could be seen as extraordinary circumstance so that compensation does not have to be paid? Or do you mean that compensation does not have to be paid in extraordinary circumstances other than coronavirus? In my opinion, coronav...

If I'm not mistaken, there is also a regulation or directive on passenger rights for passengers taking the train. Maybe it says something on the rights you have?

Re: EC Regulation 261/2004: news & court verdicts

I checked the amendment of 2013 concerning Reg. 261/2004. In the Annex to it, I found the following: Annex: non-exhaustive list of circumstances considered as extraordinary circumstances for the purposes of this Regulation 1. The following circumstances shall be considered as extraordinary: ... vii....

Re: EC Regulation 261/2004: news & court verdicts

Quite strange to read such a decision as this seems contrary to the ruling of the CJEU in the Krüsemann/TUIFly-case, where the CJEU stated: "Article 5(3) of Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 (...) read in the light of recital 14 thereof, must be interpreted as meaning that the spontaneous absence of a sig...

A court in England once ruled that trading of slots is possible, hence my reaction. If they have the option to do so, it seems strange not to do so.

I don't understand why they would return them knowing it is so hard to get them and how valuable they are. I wonder whether leasing them to another airline wouln't have been a better option

Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy. Can it be saved?

Should we believe that or have a good laugh? I don't think the fact that thousands of people might be losing their job is worth the question. Whether it's true or not, those who risk their job are not laughing at all. Those who laugh with this are selfish idiots. Nobody laughs with the employees, b...

Re: Transavia to fly from BRU with 2 Boeing 737s in Summer 2020

With Brussels Airport still holding shares and the fact that one airline would receive benefits that other airlines don't receive, it's hard to deny that this wouldn't be State aid.

Why would the EU decide against a commercial agreement between two private companies?
Because it would be illegal State aid.

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2019

I guess the best advice is wait and see. SN cancels these flights as a precautionary measure because it doesn't know what will happen with TC itself. As long as it isn't clear what happens there, SN may decide to cancel certain flights. But right now, they communicated fairly early that they are goi...
