Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

SN has posted its destinations it wants to serve again as of 15 June. However, I've been unable to find a timetable or the frequencies to each destination on their website. Can you only find it if you had a confirmed booking for a flight after this date or will SN publish this in the next coming days?

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

Brussels Airport has said on many occasions that SN should be saved by the Belgian government and that they don't need state aid themselves. There isn't much more which Brussels Airport can do. Giving better conditions to Brussels Airlines only to help them is not allowed under European and internat...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

Most logical destinations to be axed are the TCAB destinations which aren't that profitable and keep the really profitable ones. For other European destinations, I'd imagine the Cityjet-destinations if SN does not start flying to them themselves plus all other destinations which aren't profitable. B...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

This open letter is a clear sign from a large part of the companies related to Brussels Airport and Brussels Airport itself. It shows that they are all in this crisis together and that they need each other to survive this crisis. It seems like some politicians don't (want to) understand it and this ...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

Yeah yeah that open letter is very positive indeed, but it changes the circumstances compared to the commission of finance since Tuesday. That's why I hope it is a trigger for some members of the parliament to ask questions to minister De Croo again and to put some pressure on the government.

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

As much as I think that owing a blocking minority share or even the nationalisation of Brussels Airlines would be beneficial, I seriously doubt whether one of both will happen. Spohr doesn't want governments to become shareholders and LH doesn't want to give up SN to lose its control over Brussels a...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

I'm just quoting him. But with a minority government of only 38 seats out of 150 in the Parliament and 2 liberal parties, I'm not surprised that this scenario circulates as they were also part of the government during the bankruptcy of Sabena. The ideal scenario would be an agreement between the gov...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

Interesting to read the twitter of Riad Bahri, author of the VrtNws article: government wants minority of shares for the loan, LH refuses this. Government is also investigating the scenario of letting SN go bankrupt in order to start something new/smaller. Bernard Gustin's name would circulate in th...

The insurance requirement would not fall under Reg. 261/2004 but under Reg. 785/2004 (on the Insurance Requirements for Air Carriers and Aircraft Operators).

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

EU law will prevail. The Commission has issued a document on the interpretation of passenger rights during this coronacrisis not that long ago which confirms that airlines can offer now vouchers and re-bookings, but consumers still have and still will have the right to ask for a refund of their tick...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

It may be indeed that SN hasn't always been profitable, but it is also useful to look a little bit further being the government. If they take over SN, it may cost money as long as they aren't profitable but the negative economic consequences of SN going bankrupt will cost probably even more. I just...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

True, but the banks had the possibility to pay back at their own pace, so I don't really see why an airline wouldn't receive the same opportunity. You can build guarantees there as well, like make it obligatory for airlines to repay the government if they make from the profit of the previous year. I...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

@sean1982: if and when the governmen/Belfius decides to invest in SN, they'll certainly impose conditions like with the banks in 2008. The most important thing in the aviation sector is to keep the biggest airline of the second biggest employer of SN alive. If that succeeds, the government can still...
