Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions
I don't mean that, I mean a German ATCO can sit in Germany and be trained to cover Belgian airspace... Politics seem to imply that are not opposed to that idea.

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions
I don't get this seniority thing; "mvg" is right, I think, in pointing out that a good controller doesn't necessarily make a good manager; Whatever your background, management is a different ballgame and needs training. In multinationals you grow in a "triangle" and receive spec...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi - Impact on Boeing 737 MAX
Those who have done testflights with cut hydraulic systems will realise that the simulated scenario's (manual reversion) don't always prepare you for the vicious "physical" situation of a slight out of trim combined with flying the damn thing through the cables. Same thing for the aerodyna...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi - Impact on Boeing 737 MAX
I think you misunderstand the system No it's true, I hardly know anything at all about the specific details of the system. But I don't need to understand the system. The system is a black box with inputs and outputs. The input is a failed input. The output lead to a catastrophic event. The "so...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi - Impact on Boeing 737 MAX
Yes, in that case the MCAS does not lead to a hazardous or catastrophic situation I believe. That's like saying if your autobrake fails it will have catastrophic consequences... No, you still have a way to take manual control (manual braking) and continue safe operations. The elevators flying off o...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi - Impact on Boeing 737 MAX
Either the failure effect of a single failure is minor or major, and there is no initial risk for pax or pilots. Either the failure effect of a single failure is hazardous or catastrophic and, there is a risk for pax or pilots. In the latter case the aircraft is not airworthy. That makes the 737 max...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi - Impact on Boeing 737 MAX
As a non-specialist, I don't see the logics in this. Is a ferried plane less likely to experience the same problem as in the 2 fatal accidents? Or is the life of pilots not as worthy as that of pax? Are the ferrying pilots better that those who so unfortunately died in those accidents? Can someone ...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi - Impact on Boeing 737 MAX
Are pilots properly trained, I don't know. All I know is I "can" today and "screw up" tomorrow. So my mindset is "avoid". Just re-reading my post, I hope I don't sound too harsh. Aviation is soo tricky, constantly balancing between economics and safety. I do ask myself ...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi - impact on Boeing 737 MAX
Every single system can fail. The runaway stabilizer NNC is nothing new. This particular issue happened before, also on other planes than the 737 MAX ! There is absolutely NOTHING wrong by switching off the stabilizer trim. Read the bulletin published by Boeing after the Lion Air crash here: https:...

hundreds of predictions, so here s an other one: Within a few weeks the MAX up and flying again, as for cause: very bad coincidences, a set of circumstances and no direct proof of technical malfunctions, anyway Boeing took some serious precautionary measures and reviewed the complete MCAS system, c...

Fly first yes, absolutely. Always.
But don't think your manual flying skills will save you any day, any time. Overconfidence in your flying skills is karma's best friend.

Forcing at least two aircraft to head back to its destination of origin ? LIVE: Two UK-bound Turkish Airlines 737 MAX flights (#TK1997 > London Gatwick & #TK1969 > Birmingham) have turned around over Europe since the UK's airspace ban of the type. Could also be company decision as the aircraft ...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi
If you're dealing with both problems, then do both procedures. How can you identify correctly if you want to shut down a system that protects you at low airspeeds (close to stall angle of attacks) and be able to identify an airspeed unreliable situation? The system is supposed to work in low airspe...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi
MCAS or not, the way "unreliable airspeed" and "runaway stabilizer" should be treated remains the same. That's a very confusing post... Unreliable airspeed asks for a specific pitch target (pitch change using the yoke) and throttle selection (thrust change) and no actions with t...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi
So in simple words, the new bigger eco engines changed the specs of the 737 in a way that could cause problems , but boeing worked around this by adding MCAS software, and this would be so easy to deal with that not even extra training should be necessary ? right ? The problem has always been there...

Re: Anomalies in BRU-ANR-CRL-LGG-OST in 2019
I cannot see how ice and/or rain can cause any vehicle to slip. My car has been standing for 48 hours now, with all kinds of ice, rain, snow and what not blowing by. It didn't slip an inch! Now if you suggest that there was a slip due to pilot error, perhaps excessive speed for the given weather, t...
