According to the Boeing website, the interior cross section width is the following: B777 5.86 meter B787 5.74 meter That's what I thought too. I remembered the cross section of the 777 is below that of the MD-11. And since (according to Flight) Airbus is planning to widen the cross section of their...

Yeah, I'm afraid all this means in 10 years those of us travelling long haul economy will be doing so in 9 abreast cabins, meaning 1 or even 2 double-excuse seats. Apparently, final customer (the traveller) support for the 2-4-2 configuration wasn't enough for Airbus to keep their nice cabin width. ...

I don't fully agree with you. After reading the article in Flight, it seems Airbus could have the right airplane to compete with both the 787 and 777, with a wider fuselage than the current Airbus widebodies and new engines in the 90-100lb thrust range, based on GenX and GP technology... That would ...

I, for one, have always liked flying in the AA MD-80's. I loved the 2-3 seat configuration in coach. And as long as you didn't get a spot in the last 6-7 rows the engine noise is bearable I agree with you. The DC-9/MD80/90 family is the my favourite aicraft in the 100-150 seat category. I fly them ...

Exactly, the 747 was the losing aircraft in the large transport aircraft competition of the late 60s. Good someone remembers that. At the time the DoD made its choice between the contenders the aircraft development was nearly finished and had been financially supported to a great extent by the DoD.....

In my opinion McDonnell Douglas produced the best looking airliners. I love the elegance slimness of the MD80, and the MD11 is also one of my favourites. I think it's the best looking widebody. The 777 looks boring in comparison, it looks too plain, too much like an overblown 737. Recently I saw a F...

@smokejumber I think you're right, Airbus must do something more to the A350 to make it more attractive (though I must say I like the shining white late interior design). As for your remarks about the limitations to stretching a fuselage, the A340-600's sheer length tends to show that the current fu...
