Silly me, right until now I somehow thought the signals emitted by the box were radio signals, only now do I realize it's an acoustic signal... Perhaps it would be feasible to modulate a time code into the pings? That would make it much easier to locate the thing, since then you would not just hear ...

Try searching for schiphol parkeren. There are plenty of companies offering cheap parking in the area and free shuttle rides to/from the terminal, or even valet service. There are also a number of pages which compare the different operators and/or find available spots/periods.

It would appear the transponder had failed in the worst possible way, by sending out seemingly acceptable yet wrong data.

Also, doesn't the so-called 'radar data' in fact use the transponder-provided altitude?
