Re: Brussels Airlines' third US destination

I was in San Francisco only last month. Had brilliant weather, 30 degrees and over. And everybody I met was telling me how lucky I was, that they had rarely seen such weather ever. :D Anyway, with what little I know of aviation, I'd say it is a safe bet SN's next destination in the US will be in th...

Re: Brussels Airlines' third US destination

No need to make a big or personal deal out of this mr. vinnie-winnie. I've never been to Francisco, but I know enough about it to know what all the hype around it is about and it's not what you describe. You have never been there yourself obviously. Wrong! (been there about 1.5 years ago..., just s...

Re: Brussels Airlines' third US destination

The LH Group is currently obsessed with SFO. SFO here, SFO there. I'm sure that they have some financial instruments telling them that SFO has good yield potential and the numbers of the daily LH A388 are good. Many Europeans see SFO as a "European" city ideal. Everyone living stacked (so...

Re: Brussels Airlines' third US destination

Anyway, the rest of the argument stands and DEN has great yield potential. I think that the 3rd will be ORD though. Avance Consulting DEN has no great yield potential. As told by Tolipanebas there just no way SN could make it successful. Your arguments about high yields is baseless, your comfortabl...

Re: Brussels Airlines' third US destination

I don't think that SN will ever listen to me (they haven't until now) For good reasons but DEN or IAH would seem viable and can be done with a daily schedule, without requiring more than 1 aircraft. - AF can't make DEN work. How would SN do it? Better leave the DEN market to LH, BA & Icelandair...

Re: SN to Africa - one cancellation per day

I also wish some of the members here would start an airline, invest their own and just keep their strategy private as SN does. Honestly without any sarcasm would wish them all the best... Baseless claims, misinformation, unsustainable and uneconomical solutions seem to be the new normal here on Luch...

Re: AF versus SN in AFI

Whatever your knowledge is, it's very faulty. Says the very knowledgeable guy First of all, Star alliance doesn't guarrantee that airlines within it aren't going to compete. In fact TK vs SN is the perfect example of this. There is some level of coordination. not saying JV style, just some Time doe...

Re: AF versus SN in AFI

TK's strategy is very simple, nothing to understand there. You must be imagining that there is a huge top secret mission with UFO's and stuff going on. You leave at 8 in the morning from BRU, transfer in IST, arrive at 9 in the evening at FIH, for 750 euro return, flying a great IFE equipped full-s...

Re: AF versus SN in AFI

I must say, too bad for SN, they were too short-sighted and kept adding shorthaul A319's that sleep on the tarmac at night instead of going for something that could do both Europe short & medium haul during the day and Africa during the night Tiring and ridiculous as usual! U have no idea or un...

Re: New bilateral agreement Belgium- DR Congo

As far as I know, SN crew still stays at the Memling. Which, together with the hotel Royal near the presidential palace, is pretty much the only decent place to stay in Kinshasa. And their crew bus is indeed escorted by armoured guards. And quite necessary so. Edit: I guess your google maps knowled...

Re: New bilateral agreement Belgium- DR Congo

Africa is expensive to do business if you want to build a huge operation, like a new mine or a factory. The major issue is logistics. But as far as it concerns Jetair operating there, which I remind is the whole discussion of this topic, the only major investment is like I said, the bribes and the ...

Re: New bilateral agreement Belgium- DR Congo

There are plusses and minusses. It's not entirely true that a FIH operation brings higher costs for sure. Even though SN hires several local personnel, these earn nowhere near what people earn in the U.S. For individual sales, they work a lot with local agencies and the commissions are not as high ...

Re: 700 jobs threatened at Brussels Airlines?

Sabena would not have survived in any circumstances. Te trend in the industry is consolidation and specialization. Bru will always remain specialized. Following finnair's and LH's example, SN should subcontract all European flights that are unprofitable given sn's/Belgian cost of labor structure and...

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective

In conclusion: if you absolutely want to set up the kind of airline you have in mind, BRU is a pretty poor place to do so: it is just too centrally located to make the average flight time worthwhile and it is a city too small to have sufficiently high numbers of local customers. You seem to acknowl...

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective

competition in europe is much higher then in the US and lets not forget airlines in the US don't have to compete against high speed trains Maybe of the record, but high speed trains is on top of the agenda now in USA. So that will mean even harsher competition in USA . http://www.ushsr.com You are ...

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective

How do you suggest they do that? Most costs are fixed and shaved to dangerous levels, and even though they cut overhead costs, airlines still can't seem to make money on shorthaul. It's easy to say that they need to cut costs. I said it already: Outsourcing, pilot base in Ireland, subcontracting, a...

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective

Could we maybe get back to the SN case instead of the US/Asia... If you want to discuss marketing strategies for airlines worldwide, do so in a seperate topic, this is still the SN topic. 1) If Flanker says he should follow the US or Asian strategy, not knowing what he is talking about, then I thin...

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective

The BS is all yours. The only airlines in the US and Asia (including Midle-East) that are doing well are the airlines offering premium for the money. People in Europe are willing to pay more if they get value for their extra money. It's all about value but no one is offering it. Tell me, how will a...

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective

Dont know if this is the right topic, but according to hln.be SN is receiving 25 million euros in support from the SN airholding. This might mean that SN would make a 20 million euro loss this year. If this is true this means SN's calculations have been right. Profit is only planned to be made mayb...
