All those very long stories...boring to read...bottom line: before corona SN was not able to make profit
4 out of the 5 past years were profitable, albeit relatively low except for the year 2015. And the profit loss of the 2016 attacks are higher then the loss recovered from the insurance.

Re: Starting pilot training or not?

In 3 years time the aviation market will start in a golden era, but the question will be when new ab-initio's will be able to start the coming years. If I had to decide between starting training in september or starting education for a degree, I would go for the latter and do the training later.

Re: Cruise speed vs top of descent

So basically, if I want to sequence using speed control instead of vectoring, I need to first descend with a good rate and then reduce the speed. If aircraft have to reduce their speed below a speed that is 'normal' for descent it would indeed be better to let them descend a bit earlier so that the...

Re: Cruise speed vs top of descent

If we have to reduce and maintain this reduced speed during the complete descent the top of descent will come forward. We'll have to start the descent earlier as we cannot descend as steeply as when we still had 300kts. Of course, this is when you follow an optimum glide with engines in idle. You ca...

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future

Sadly enough it's not that abnormal, especially flights arrive here in peaks and even then, a flight that is 15 min early and one that is 15min late can cause a sudden pax flow. Waiting times at border control CAN be high in any part of the world and I have waited +1hr in several other 'civilized' c...

Re: Flight planning question!!

It would help if you could provide your real life situation you were into. For ex. some airports close as from a certain hour, so if a flight is delayed it's possible that they depart with uncertainty/certainty if the airport will be closed by the time they arrive. In that case they just land at the...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2019

SN will not be considered a 'real' network airline as they won't expand the BRU hub a lot. SN will most probably only expand in Africa and if needed for Africa also in the US. That's it.They won't become a network airline like SWISS with destinations in most of the continents. That's why they call i...

As a reminder, ASL France is operating a daily flight between BRU and CDG for Brussels Airlines.
The contract with them has been terminated already for quite a long time, SN operates all its CDG flights with own Airbus aircraft.

Re: National strike in Belgium on 13 February 2019

Bit touchy? Im wel aware of how connecting traffic works. However a large part of SN’s operation is ex-Thomas cook flights, exactly the same kind of operations TUI does. There is no reason why an effort shouldnt be made to get those people on their holiday on time, therefore my statement: cancellin...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2018

Anyone knows why SN is still hiring contract pilots through contractair? I thought some SN management pilots on here claimed it was only temporary to accommodate Avro to Airbus type ratings? Because they still have a shortage of pilots for upcoming summer season, positions they cannot fill from the...

Hi

Anynone has infos about load factor between Brussels and Kigali ?
Very poor. At the moment KGL-BRU around 5-10%. KGL-LGW around 15%. LF from BRU to KGL is between 0 and 3%.

Flights are in fact almost empty with none or very few passengers boarding in BRU.

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

I think the chances of SN deploying A321's to Africa, except for maybe a single route, are slim. These aircraft simply don't have enough payload capacity for luggage and cargo load together. If they add A321's to their fleet it would probably be for high loadfactor routes as to the Canary Islands, B...

Re: BRU Summer 2017: news, new routes, airlines

In summer Icelandair has a turnaround of 70 min and with current winter schedule it's 65 min. If delayed they still take into account 60 min for the turnaround. Although Icelandair doesn't have more pax on its B757 than WOW Air in its A321, they often transport tons of fish as cargo which takes quit...

Re: Brussels Airlines' punctuality

Their operational execution of their flights is terrible in general. There are many structural reasons why flights leave with delay every day again, and nothing is being done about it. For May a huge impact was the transition from an old check-in and flight management system (system where pax are bo...

Security officers on board are quite standard at MS, at least on the BRU routes.
