Re: Strikes affecting Belgian airports in 2023

Brussels airport has become a regional airport. Average number of movements on Sundays is 450! That’s 225 departures and 225 arrivals per day! Compare it to London Heathrow: 1200 movements per day! Privatize ATC at Brussels airport and have it done by efficient people! These guys get paid like in ot...

Re: Loss of separation due to ATC resolved by TCAS at Brussels Airport

It is very difficult to investigate an incident without having the full picture: - (Real) radar images (flightradar24 isn’t reliable enough to measure a distance between plane precisely) - recordings of the frequencies - testimony of the controllers and pilots - any other info about external factors...

Re: Social actions at air navigation service provider skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Hi 737MAX, To answer your questions: Most of the time, one hour is not worked every shift. In some units (mostly in the regional airports), it can go up to 3 or 4 hours not worked for some shifts! If we add up all the hours not worked each month, we are speaking about days not worked by each of them...

Re: Social actions at air navigation service provider skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Prikklok/pointeuse has always been refused by the controllers (all other employees at Skeyes use it) because they are leaving early before the end of their shift. This has been said many times (and never denied). If you work your hours, you can’t be upset with a prikklok... Who, in 2020, gets paid 6...

Re: Social actions at air navigation service provider skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

In the meantime, while some people are struggling with the little 1000€ help from the governement, some civil servants are relaxing at home, working only a few days per month, without losing a single euro from their huge salary, absolutely sure that they will never lose their jobs and their strikin...

Re: Social actions at air navigation service provider skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

On one hand the Walloon government invests millions in projects* that will only be beneficial for Skeyes and on the other hand they have to bring Skeyes to court to try to have a guarantee of continuity of its services. *One example among others: https://www.aviation24.be/air-traffic-control/skeyes/...

Re: Social actions at air navigation service provider skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Has there been any salary cut? Temporary unemployment? Temporary unemployment is not an option for civil servants. You've proven yourself to be very well aware of everything that's happening in the company, so you would also know that a pay cut would happen at the end of the year, the end of the re...

Why are we not surprised? The Management doesn't like The Guilde and The Guilde doesn't like the Management... They will use any possible reason to attack each other...

How is it going for the controllers during these difficult times?
Has there been any salary cut? Temporary unemployment?

Re: Social actions at air navigation service provider skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Glad that someone is talking about the working conditions at NATS. Let me share a few differences with your company: - NATS shifts last 8 hours: no early leave. Yours last officially 7 hours and most of them last only 6 hours. Over 20 days of work (usual amount of days worked in UK in a month), they...

Re: Social actions at air navigation service provider skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Reading the article on HLN, if we can trust what the journalist wrote, Mr Callaerts said that some ATCOs are still rostered with 15 shifts over 16 days... That isn’t true... It’s a total mess over there: I recently saw an Atco yelling at his manager because of a procedure and one hour later the sam...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Staff shortage in this case means there are not enough controllers at work for a specific shift to ensure business continuity during the whole shift. How can this happen? Combination of several factors: 1) several controllers call sick for the same shift Is it just a coincidence? 2) no (or not enoug...

German air traffic controllers receive 2,000 euros per extra shift. https://www.tijd.be/ondernemen/luchtvaart/duitse-luchtverkeersleiders-krijgen-2-000-euro-per-extra-shift/10128743.html - The discussion in Germany also reminds us of the situation at the Belgian Skeyes. There, traffic controllers h...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Hi guys, I was only replying to SR20’s post. Reality is not like in the tweet, neither like in his post. We are not forgetting that the management is doing a very poor job and that being an Atco means having responsibilities. Btw 737MAX, if you know an Atco who has ever worked after he has turned 60...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

Hi SR20, Although i don’t agree with the tone of the tweet, I can’t agree with your statement. - 8000€ netto is indeed incorrect, it is more around 6500€ for a radar controller (as discussed many times before) - 35 hours per week is what is supposed to be worked on paper. Before being short of staff...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions

@Phoenixx I don’t agree with your view of the minimum service at all. There is no minimum service in Belgium. Listening to emergency frequencies and provide help to aircrafts in emergencies is not a minimum service. It is a legal obligation and the least you can do as professionals. One Atco (usual...
