Re: Boeing 777 and PW4000 engines

What about the PW4000 engine versions used on other aircraft, like the B747? Is the design of the PW4000-112 so specific this kind of damage can only occur there?

Re: (Belgian) flight crew commuting to Belgium

Now with this corona crisis we have to fill in a plf form which is not really designed for flight crew. Do you have to fill it in, as you are not a passenger (and it's a PASSENGER locator form)? You cross the border to go to work, that's allowed. But take a proof from your employer that you're work...

Re: Alitalia saved by the Government and reborn as ITA

What you don't understand is that Alitalia is a necessity for Italy!!! Why? They have Air Dolomiti, Ryanair, Wizz Air and probably many others which operate a host of domestic flights. International flights by the same airlines and all the big European, American, Middle East and Asian airlines. Pre...

Re: Impact of the coronavirus crisis on aviation

After 9/11 (well.. not today) the fear of people to fly was mitigated by implementing the security checks. Useful or not, at least they give a sense of safety and security. After the Coronavirus crisis, we'll probably not only have to put our belt and shoes in a tray, but spit in it as well for a co...

Re: 2020 Antwerp Airport (ANR/EBAW) latest news

Let's Antwerp focus on what they are good at, the harbor and let the aviation to people who can make something of it. Brussels has a harbour too :P Or should we understand that the Port of Brussels is totally useless, there's a much bigger port nearby blahblahblah? Antwerp as a business airport mak...

Not really a diversion, but... Ryanair flight #FR7364 from Vienna to London Stansted, operated by Lauda A320 OE-LMB, has been escorted by two RAF Typhoons due to suspicious objects discovered in a lavatory. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EgsjDLGXsAIp4hL?format=jpg&name=small Did they inspect the o...

Re: Boeing 747-8 news

It is also very clear that the world does not need big giant planes anymore. ( If a redesign is needed, it should be done on the 757-200 IMO ) Is it? Maybe for passengers there's currently (and in the next few years) no need for a 747 or A380, but what after those years? The aircraft used in 5-10 y...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

So, you don't need an XLR, LR would be enough? That's the one on that diagram with the 97t MTOW. The LR is already available, maybe even at interesting (leasing) prices due to lower aviation demand, while the XLR is not produced yet, and might have a relatively higher price tag, especially the first...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

maybe Lufthansa sends in some CRJ's from Germany to help out their Belgian daughter (if they'll have too many of them) There are 7 or 8 to be sold as not in plan for the Future. But this would increase local complexity, so better to stay with 1 family and this is the A320. It's a difficult balance:...

Re: Breaking: BRU obtains US border preclearance station status

That could also mean a boost for the flights offered out of BRU to the US. In the LH-group for instance, FRA and MUC have flights to many more destinations in the USA, but no border clearance, not even planned? I hope this might help SN to attract more transfer pax in the LH-group. Maybe even a reas...

Re: Impact of aviation on the Coronavirus crisis

I love this kind of post because it shakes people awake. At the peak of the Coronavirus crisis, Belgium had 496 deaths per day. In comparison, in 2019, Belgium counted 646 accident deaths on its roads for the full year. To reach the same level of deaths by car accidents, we would have to remove all...

Re: Impact of aviation on the Coronavirus crisis

Completely shutting down air travel for passengers could maybe save some lives, at the expense of a heavy economical impact. On the other hand: smoking also kills a lot of people, but it's not forbidden. Neither is the use or selling of alcohol. Both products which aren't necessary (like air travel...

Re: Air Belgium in 2020

As there are Canadian shareholders in BAC, would that make BRU a Canadian airport?
Why so much focus on the nationality... The current pandemic shows we live in a world which cares less about borders and nations than ever before.
