Re: Korongo Airlines: THE END

In an interview with Jeune Afrique, Korongo former CEO is Christophe Allard is putting the blame for the demise of his company solely on the DRC government. This can be summed up as follows: 1. Difficult negociations with the gov on improvement of airport infrastructures at Goma and Kisangani airpor...

Re: Korongo Airlines: THE END

Government interference started with the official ban to Ethiopian Airlines to start up Addis Abeba-Goma, a routing ment to avoid a stopover at Kinshasa and an add-on Kinshasa-Goma (read: Congo Airways). The day after the initial ET flight, the DRC's CAA ruled that the Goma runway is too dangerous ...

Re: Korongo Airlines: THE END

Let me put a different perspective on this. Too easy to blame a country political or financial situation or say a country is not suitable for this type of business. Korongo is mostly responsible of its own demise. Bad strategy, lack of investment have essentially hurt the company. They choosed FBM a...

Re: Korongo Airlines

Things not looking good for Korongo. The only plane they have has some engine problem and is now flying on occasional basis. For a company that was meant to change the face of the aviation in the DRC, what a disappointment! Being a subsidiary of SN who itself is not in a great financial situation do...

Re: D R Congo will create an airline with Air France-KLM

More details: AF/KLM will act as the consultant to help launch the company and for technicals, but will most likely not manage the airline (very confusing). They will not chip in any money either. A private manager will be appointed by the state, whether local or foreign still to be decided. The sta...

Re: D R Congo will create an airline with Air France-KLM

I dont think the fact Korongo is based at FBN is the issue. From there they can still fly thrughout the entire country or they could have open a route to Zambia or another african country. Korongo real problems are lack of funding, impacting their expansion and maybe vision. The company is only flyi...

Re: D R Congo will create an airline with Air France-KLM

The company will first fly domestic, then regional before going international, but that will most likely not happen anytime soon. On the other end, Korongo is about to open Kisangani route as they are currently hiring. My understanding was that Forrest Group was willing to put more money but SN was ...

Re: Korongo Airlines

Good news and less competition for Korongo? I don't know how active these 10 airlines were at Korongo's routes, but it will be good news anyway even if it's in a more indirect way. DRC is finaly making some steps in improving its safety, if that eventually results in the DRC being removed from the ...

Re: Brussels Airlines opens the door of Congo

Though the idea looks interessting, I am not too sure if this operation could be profitable. There are already a certain numbers of people, mostly from NGO and multinational firms based in east (Goma) that travels to Kigali to fly with Turkish Airlines (Cheap price). The population in east DRC mostl...

Kinshasa picked by Ethiopian to host its regional hub

Ethiopian Airlines Enterprise said it will locate its fourth hub in the Democratic Republic of Congo as Africa’s No. 2 carrier seeks to tap Chinese economic links and fill long-haul flights to destinations such as Brazil. Ethiopian Airlines is negotiating with the Congolese government and could agre...

Re: Korongo Airlines

As per Jeune Afrique, Lufthansa not willing to invest more money in Korongo becasuse of SN poor financial performance. Groupe Forrest, the other minority investor is willing to put more money... Not sure what's next. That is one more reason I personnaly ruled out SN being the partner of the new cong...

Re: A new airline to replace LAC in D R Congo ?

Please keep in mind that from a congolese perspective, Brussel Airlines is already getting a huge privilege on the Brussel-Kinshasa line by being granted traffic rights for 2 additional days (for a total of 7) that they used to lease from LAC. This decision by the governement was done against the ad...

The top management of Brussel Airlines were in Kinshasa last week. Re: Lignes Aériennes Congolaises to be replaced by new carri

I do not think SN will be involved in setting up a new airliner in the DRC as they will otherwise compete against Korongo, which still has to fully establish itself. The governmen thas actually hired an indepenent firm to help that select a strategic partner for that purpose. We should know more in ...
