Re: VLM Airlines news 2017

Well, we can now ask ourselves what the curator was smoking when he decided that SHS was the best candidate. Probably the same stuff that SHS is smoking. I think that the curator has responsibility on taking such a bad decision. We've all seen this coming on aviation24.be. VLM should have been flyin...

Re: Air Belgium: a rebirth?

At this point, I don't see the point of starting up this year. It's almost March and as previous posters, I think that starting sales and marketing up now for June/July is just too late for a new carrier that nobody knows about. 6 months is the minimum in my opinion. They might as well regroup and s...

Re: VLM Airlines news 2017

There is one red flag here. 60% Dutch shareholding is in breach of the standards for bilateral agreements for non-EU routes. The yellow flag is 50 staff members to start-up, only 15 on the current payroll. You can't run a single A320 aircraft full-time with 50 staff members. Why waste resources on "...

Re: Experiences on Turkish Airlines long haul?

So how was your TK experience? I've flown TK many times this year including a free upgrade to C, on error fares that I booked a while ago. I'm not impressed by their economy offering and even less by their C offering (relatively speaking). I officially don't understand people who pay tons of money t...

Re: Air Belgium: a rebirth?

There is one thing that bugs me. VLM supported by Chinese money is looking for A330 pilots to fly to China. Air Belgium supported by Chinese money wants to fly A340's to China. It's almost like a race of who's going to make it first. There is only one suitable airport for this operation and it's BRU...

Re: Vueling reduces activities at Brussels airport

Vueling is in a similar mess as Eurowings. I think that the big win is for SN and TP. FR can bleed money on these routes, while SN and TP will do ok. FR's half-*ssed strategy may have chased Vueling away partially, but it's also chasing its own customers away to SN and TP. If they had just stayed in...

Re: Lufthansa buys the remaining 55% of Brussels Airlines

SN isn't "too big to fail", actions like these will likely lead to SN's demise in no time. Well, if Spohr forces SN under EW, even if done in 2-3 years, there is your demise. Because when EW goes down, SN will be dragged down with it. I just don't see EW lasting more than 3 years from now. Does his...

Re: Lufthansa buys the remaining 55% of Brussels Airlines

Well Passenger, you can see it the way you do from the German perspective. Also the German clueless "expert"guy who spoke on the news piece a few days ago said that the Germans deserve a cheap buy-out because they invested in the airline during difficult times. However, ont he flip side there is the...

Re: Lufthansa buys the remaining 55% of Brussels Airlines

One of Spohr's greatest issues is the amount of staff SN employs: Quick comparison: SN: 3500 staff for 7,5 million passengers: 1 staff member for 2143 passengers. FR: 10000 staff for 117000000: 1 staff member for 11700. Spohr's has often said that the cost base for personal he wants to model eurowi...

Re: Lufthansa buys the remaining 55% of Brussels Airlines

Why wouldn't SN just continue the rollover of the ancient A330 fleet with the younger SQ-birds? Why would LX need new equipment? All of their A333's were factory new and the B77W's are still entering the company. The only reason why I could see LH ad a fairly odd type of airplane (accept for OS's 7...

Re: Lufthansa buys the remaining 55% of Brussels Airlines

In Terzake on the Flemish TV, it is said by Heinrich Großbongardt that SN would remain its name. (watch at 3:18) Note that this person does not work for LH, but is an independent aviation expert. He also focuses on the strong African netwerk that is important for LH. A bit later Steven Decraene add...

Re: Lufthansa buys the remaining 55% of Brussels Airlines

If you ask me, neither Vueling, Transavia, Eurowings, Ryanair, Norwegian or Easyjet are going anywhere.
I only see some good potential in Wizzair who is sticking to the traditional LCC parameters.

Re: Lufthansa buys the remaining 55% of Brussels Airlines

I see a lot of excitement here but not much has changed since yesterday. Have you guys actually read the press release from LH? LH is just saying that they will exercise their options and attempt to acquire the full shareholding by the end of the year (hence attempting to avoid the full 150+ million...

Re: Lufthansa to decide on 27 April/28 September whether to take over all of Brussels Airlines

If we may believe the media reports, this is shaping up to be a hostile take-over by LH. Interesting times, but I'll still believe it when I see it. You do know definition of "hostile takeover"? This is not a hostile takeover as the management agrees with the takeover (or better already agreed when...

Re: Breaking: Monarch Airlines ceasing ops?

The UA B744 is still on standby in Tenerife. Chartering an aircraft like that costs a small fortune, so I doubt that they would do it unless there was reasonable doubt about Monarch being able to continue operating. HNA is named as a potential investor. HNA is investing in anything they could get th...
