Re: Brussels Airlines in 2023

Always fun these discussions on fleet and destinations. Fleet wise I guess it is probable that SN will get some of the A330’s of LH. But only 4 of those are younger than 14 years. The rest can only be a stop-gap. The others as well but they could last a bit longer. Their replacement isn’t due for an...

Re: The one and only topic on which runway in use @EBBR

Are both runways currently in use for landing, 25R and 25L?
I wanted to take the kids to the spotting platform at 25L for some late morning landings.

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU): Star Alliance, Oneworld and Skyteam under one roof?

Nice to hear ideas on the expansion of BRU are materializing. Looking at Google images I see there are currently 6 stands west of Pier A, I guess remote stands mostly used by e.g. Ryanair. You could add another 3 further west until the Road/tunnel under the runway, to me the outer further extensions...

Re: BRU Winter 2019-2020: news, new routes, airlines

Air Canada will upgrade its Montreal service this winter from the previously planned 787-8 to 787-9. Source: https://www.routesonline.com/news/38/airlineroute/284038/air-canada-nw19-long-haul-changes-as-of-24apr19/ I guess that would make the 789 the most frequent long-haul aircraft at BRU, behind ...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2019

Meanwhile, Turkish Airlines is allowed to fly 7 (!!) times per week to Kinshasa. Indeed, but with a Boeing 737 MAX 8, the capacity is much lower than on SN's A330. And I am sure that the Belgian diplomatic representation in Kinshasa is pushing the new President to grant additional slots to Brussels...

Belgium's Competition Authority is investigating the merger/take over. This is a routine procedure after both airlines announced their plans to the Competion Authority. Publication in the Belgian State Gazette (7th Aug 2017): NL: http://www.ejustice.just.fgov.be/cgi/article_body.pl?language=nl&...

Re: BRU - Long haul & intercontinental in the medium-long term

These are only potential routes, not based on any rumours or anything but more which routes/airlines BRU should have in a couple of years: USA : - LAX: by SN Africa : - JNB: by SN Sadly SN doesn't have a plane to fly these routes, nor will the planned new-old A330's be able to. Thus not likely in a...

Re: BRU Winter 2017-18: news, new routes, airlines

9W left Brussels for a reason. (Probably not because it was making a lot of money) The reduction is seasonal, SU18 should be back to 5x weekly. But if BOM stay 6X in SU18 and YYZ go back to 5X it will makes 2 extra rotation, does it mean an 11th A330 could be coming? If BOM goes to 6x weekly, and Y...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

I have not seen any mention or announcement of this elsewhere, but someone on Airliners.net posted this on SN's fleet replacement last weekend: "It turned out that the "replacement" aircraft for SN will be RR-powered A330-300, 4 ex-Cathay (2006-08 builts) and the rest ex-Singapore. Th...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

It's rather difficult to give you a number, but I don't think it would be unreasonable to think that they will have 15 A330s by the early 2020's. Their ambition is to become the "Africa leader" instead of the "Africa specialist" and to operate at least 10 A330s dedicated to Afri...

Re: Brussels Airlines future and financial perspective

I also think there should be more to it. If true it seems to say the majority shareholders are terrible at negotiating, and the LH people on the board did not really play the game nicely. Why would this come out now? Suddenly LH want to buy at this price, whereas the info we get indicates this price...

Aircraft use at BRU after 22/03

Hi, I was enjoying the Sun this afternoon while watching some aircraft descending into BRU. Just after 16:00 I saw a QR A320. I was surprised as I thought QR operate the 788 into BRU. That made me wonder whether this was a one off, a downgauge during the weekend or a scheduled downgauge after the at...

Re: Brussels Airlines future and financial perspective

Even though Africa is SN's core business (long haul that is), with some trans-Atlantic support, it is striking that almost all of the expansion in the last 4-5 years was elsewhere. Yes, they swapped ACC and NBO, and added some frequencies here and there. But that is in contrast to their expansion el...

UA spending night at BRU?

Hi, I just arrived in BRU shortly after 21:30 on SK. While taxiing to the gate, I saw a UA aircraft parked. Could not see clearly (it was already snowing) but seemed to be a 777. It was positioned close to former C pier (my flight landed on runway 19). Why is the aircraft spending the night on the g...

Re: Brussels Airport delays extension of A pier

Perhaps we should keep in mind that the connector was designed considering A West! Not only the current building. If 9W leaves, that would create some room at Pier B. Main issue to me seems to be not the availability of gate space (unless in the early morning with all the long-haul arrivals). But ra...

Re: BRU winter 2013-2014: latest news, routes, airlines

EY has changed their mind it seems: it's stays like it is with 8 weekly flights. Somehow I have a feeling EY are not taking the opportunity to "bag it up" in BRU by going to 12 weekly. Doesn't this leave the door open for QR to expand, or some day EK to come in. With 12 weekly, almost dou...

Re: "Landing at Brussels Airport will become more dangerous"

I don't know about the technical details, but I guess the administration probably doesn't know either. I don't like this kind of decisions to be taken by government. It should be the aviation authorities, with ATC and ultimately pilots who should decide whether it is safe to land or not. As an outsi...

Not sure yet if I should change my name... Always need to get used to a new aircraft. But I like it, looks futuristic, perhaps the nose is a bit too sharp. Great video, certainly the view from the tow vehicle under the nose. And also the view on the nose & cockpit when the aircraft is almost out...

Re: AF versus SN in AFI

It almost sounds like the entire TK plan was your idea in the first place. Surely they must be reading Luchtzak! No seriously, I thought it was more logic for TK to start with 737-9ER's, as IST is closer to a lot of African destinations than BRU is. I would guess they can reach places like Niamey, N...
