Re: Brussels Airlines future and financial perspective
BRU at 40% capacity for the summer. What was SN's market share in BRU? If (and that's a big IF) priority is given to SN to relaunch their operations, they would actually be competition-free for several months. Although it's only a small compensation compared to the losses incurred by the bad publici...

Re: Germanwings A320 crash in France
Agree with RTM. What should be in place is a no-blame, no-fear work environment where pilots and other staff can report unfit without being afraid of the consequences. How many times have I seen pilots flying when sick. Too many! Specially amongst young pilots (afraid of losing their job if reportin...

Re: Tintin Logo Jet Brussels Airlines (Kuifje)
Very nice idea. And very good looking plane.
Do you know if Brussels Airlines had to pay to get the right to use Tintin's image, or was it a win-win (advertisement for Tintin as well)?

Re: Background info on hiring techniques at the low cost airlines
Who ordered or presented the study is irrelevant. The facts remain: a lot of independent workers pilots are in fact employees of a single airline. And the practice is common in low cost carriers. If they were truly independent, they'd be able to offer their service to other carriers. But they are no...

Looks like everything was fine until a bloody taxi driver went in the way.
Seriously though, it looks like the left wing stalled before the right. Due to left engine failure? (No more prop wash?)

Might have stalled due to icing.
Similar to the crash in Gosselies? Or the AF in Pau.

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective
Flanker, what if you were Air China?
Would you try to hub your flights through Brussels, halving your profits, or would you try to open direct links to Africa?
I suppose it all depends if the traffic is big enough to warrant direct flights and serious frequency.

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective
Pocahontas, there was money for IAD, which seems to be doing not se great. On the other hand, PEK or PVG are much further away than IAD and require something else than a 330. I agree with Flanker that the travel needs between Africa and China are booming. But there is strong competition from the lik...

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective
I don't think we can expect similar growth next year. But even a status quo would be good (if the yields are sustainable). It's funny though, how some were bashing FR for their 'hidden cost' (pay for checked luggage, etc...), while it really seems to be a working method. People WILL book the cheapes...

where do these passengers come from? Lufthansa? Adding capacity is not all, filling the seats is the real challenge.
well done!
any hints about any increase in revenue?

Like the flights are only filled up with medical staff. And like only a few hundred passengers went or will go through Marocco in the last/next months.
Are you so much deluded, you can't see similar points?

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa
I'm sorry SN26567, but what does it prove exactly? That the system didn't detect someone who was not sick? I'll be more reassured when the system effectively catches someone sick, before he/she starts vomiting or being contagious. Odds are indeed slim that one without symptoms before boarding would ...

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa
Now, Flanker, you're starting to make me doubt about the real danger of Ebola ;-) I always think everything in this world is about money. No need to really spread the virus, as long as the fear is there, they will sell their vaccine for billions. Same for the H1N1 and the tamiflu. 5000, 10000, 50000...

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective
The good news for SN (and other airlines) is the fuel price.
If it remains where it is, they will be able to make profits sooner than later.
But that's a big IF.
And hopefully they haven't edged too much of their fuel bill at 110usd.

That doesn't necessarily mean the end of the project.
It depends if the fault can be found and corrected. And how far in the development they were.
But it's a sad news indeed.

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa
The ban on visa to enter Canada only concerns foreigners who've been to these countries in the last x weeks or months.
Canadian doctors will still be able to go to Africa to fight Ebola and then go back to Canada.
Why is it a problem, then?

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa
What if the borders were 100% hermetic? I know they are not and never will. But hypothetically, this would be the best measure. And when I say borders, I mean borders outside the infection foyer, not the whole country. On the other hand, what seems to be the consensus amongst people who are against ...

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa
Some here seem to criticize the closure of borders and quarantine measures in place in the US. And they don't want to see the end of commercial travel to these countries. but what are the other solutions they bring into the discussion? The only way to stop the disease is for infected people to stop ...

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa
As there is no (official) cure yet, the only way to stop ebola at source is to prevent contact with sick or dead people.
Isn't what we are preaching here?
It seems you are happy for sick people to travel freely.

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa
I wonder what's on the 'questionnaire' that passengers are supposed to fill in on departure.
I suppose there is a question about being close to infected people.
If so, how are doctors or journalists allowed to board without extra measures?
