The only thing new was, in their opinion, it will take longer to certify the plane than Boeing has scheduled.
I think almost everyone except Boeing subscribes to that view.
Intereting to compare with the XWB test schedule released yesterday.

Re: "Qantas suffers fuel system problems on all three A380s."

Fungus in the fuel has been around in Australia for decades.
Biggest problem is filter blockage, and by-passing filters is not a good idea.
In the past, an additive has worked, but minimizing water content is always best although with condensaion, this is a problem.

Re: 787 Delay

Just been reading the latest 787 progress report in Fleetbuzz, very much a Boeing fan club. Choice of words very interesting. First flight in second quarter of 2009 and entry into service first quarter 2010 are now rather disingeniously worded as "tentative" Havent seen anything from Boein...

Problem is that Boeing have shot themselves in the foot so often, even de-luxe Nikes wouldnt cope with the stress.

Good to see that you are getting at least some of your faith back RC!
Have to admit it gets a bit of a worry when the industry starts quoting timings which are way past my "use by" date.
Cheers

Re: 787 Delay

The following is very interesting http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/397548_dreamliner27.html So, they aren't replacing all the bad fasteners, the strike added maybe two months to the program (though stuff was still going on) and its delayed until June (and I am not taking any bets!) No Dreamli...

Re: Boeing hints at possible reassement of 747-8 programme

Sadly I think the writing is on the wall! No current sales campaigns for the 748I says it all. The big surprise is that the 748F may also suffer the same fate, although in my view, Boeing would just defer the freighter for a few years as absolutely no alternative is on the horizon once the 744's sta...

Re: Are you a Romantic or Analyst?

Very well put RC20. I agree with most of it, but I feel you are a bit harsh on the A380. Without the wiring SNAFU it would have been fine. The MOU signed this last week with Austral for two birds with 840 seats is interesting, although I certainly wont be planning to be on them. It proposes or perha...

Re: US Airways A320 ditches in Hudson River - pax and crew OK !

The engines have a shear pin in the pylon so that if there was a catastrophic failure like thrown fan blades, the engine would break free to avoid any damage to the wings primary structure. Speaking of glider pilots, therre was a famous incident in New Zealand with a DC3 which hit a mountain in a fl...

Re: US Airways A320 ditches in Hudson River - pax and crew OK !

So the pilot is now rated for a Grumman. Fantastic achievement, maybe the Collier award for airmanship is possible and deserving in my opinion. Amazing that in the last three months or so we have seen four "totals" or almost, without a single loss of life. RyanAir 737 (Birds). We have seen...

Re: A350 Design Freeze Delay

There is a major presentation of the XWB to existing and potential buyers in March, 2009, so IMHO it will be finished before then. Bear in mind the design has been frozen for quite some time, the so called "design freeze" at the end of 2008 is detail features only to make it all go togethe...

Re: Boeing 787 Delayed An Additional 6 Months.

This de-lamination scare is gaining momentum. Should be possible to overcome if it is just a manufacturing fault but something is seriously amiss. The A380 incidentally has a composite set of elevators, which are pretty substantial, and they seem to be ok so we may be just looking at manufacturing p...

Re: Boeing 787 Delayed An Additional 6 Months.

According to a blogger on James Wallis, the wing of the static test plane has started to de-laminate. Wonder if this contributed to what IMO was a strange move to take the plane out of the testing rig for repainting. I hope for all concerned this is nothing more than a mischeivous rumour. Its the la...
