Re: Egypt

BA are continuing to serve cairo - but they seem to be adjusting the schedule to allow daytime arrivals/departures from Cairo rather than the usual late night/very early morning arrivals. It is reported by basource.com that they are using a European configured 767 instead of a long/mid haul configur...

Re: Jet asks Govt of India for permission to join Star

The Indian minister is asking Air India to approach Oneworld and Skyteam - given the run around that AI have given Star before they were finally rejected by Star I don't see the other two alliances being very receptive to approached from AI.

Re: 30 million € state aid for Brussels Airlines (and others

Inquirer wrote:clearly positive stimulus program for Belgian airlines allowing them to compete effectively on a level playing field with foreign competitors.
Perhaps you could explain in what way other competitors e.g AF, BA, etc receive subsidies which have put Belgian airlines at a disadvantage?

Re: LATAM Merger approved

As part of the regulatory approval process by the Brazilian and Chilian authorities certain conditions were laid down, I understand two of which were: LATAM could not be in the same alliance as AVIANCA/TACA and if they were in an alliance it had to be one of the two to which LAN and TAM currently be...

Re: Air India vs. Boeing re 787 Compensation

That's roughly $40m per plane AI has on order - a discount of around 25% on the full list price [which AI almost certainly didnt pay] in 2006 when AI placed their order. Giving a 25% discount would set a nasty precedent for negotiations with all the other Boeing customers who are facing delays. Its ...

Re: Afriqiyah Airways - when back to Brussels?

According to airlineroute.net Afriqiyah is resuming twice weekly fligths to Rome on 19th April - two days time. This presumably is to test the water to its nearest EU neighbour. If this is the case then the blanket voluntary ban imposed by Libya at the end of March on flying to the EU must have been...

Re: Daydreaming about an Airbus A321 for Brussels Airlines

In response to your question - British Airways use 2 wide bodies a day (one B767 at night and one B777 in the morning) on the Heathrow to Tel Aviv route. Interestingly British Airways will also be introducing a B747 on one of their three daily Moscow runs from the summer 2012 season, their shortest ...

Re: american booking safe?

Whilst there are no guarantees in in this world chapter 11 bankrpuptcy for AA would not necessarily mean the end by any means - I think AA is currently one of the few US majors not to have been through chapter 11 - United, Delta and US Airways have all been throught the process and still flying succ...

Re: Charlotte (North Carolina) gets European flights

The title of the thread is slightly misleading as US Airways have had a daily service from Charlotte to London [Gatwick I think] for several years, unless of course you don't consider the UK as part of Europe. :)

Re: Delta to expand at London Heathrow

Can Delta 'demand' the slots that AA/BA have to make available under the anti-trust agreement or do all the other US carriers have an opportunity to make a 'pitch' for the slots? Will it boil down to the highest bidder wins?

Re: CSA Czech Airlines ends UK service after 72 years

I guess selling a couple of pairs of slots at Heathrow would provide some much needed cash flow to CSA - though in the current market I would expect the price for Heathrow slots has dropped significantly from the reported 30m euros Alitalia got for a prime pair of slots in 2007.

Re: Mexicana on the edge of bankruptcy?

Recent press has speculated that Mexicana wll shortly be seaking official court protection from its creditors - the equivalent I think of the US chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection - and as we all know in recent years pretty well most of the US major airlines have been in [some more than once] chapter ...

So far this year just one return trip completed: LHR - CAI - LHR an Egyptair codeshare with BMI, operated outbound by a BMI A321, returning on an Egyptair Boeing 777-200 CAI-LXR - Egyptair A320s both ways, but the southbound flight was like a cattle truck whilst the norhbound flight to Cairo was a m...
