Re: Qantas grounds A380 fleet after incident over Indonesia

If this is really a design problem, RR better change the design or who's going to ever fly on a A350 with just two of these? With QF's maintenance, i don't really get it. I have always thought it's just a national pride thing that the local Australians criticise Qantas for outsourcing maintenance wo...

Re: 787 Delay

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&sid=ac_zfin6rnNY The only positive is still, when this plane gets done it will be a great leap forward in terms of technologies, hopefully. Or is wound-barrel composite fuselage a result of over-optimism? Some may say that they want to get everythi...

Re: A330 had its EIS 15 years ago, first ever A330 is with SN

Yes i remember CX had their in-flight magazine printing out their average fleet age, last time i read it a few years back was 9.X years. Now of course they don't have in flight magazines, and i dont' seem to find 'average fleet age' on their entertainment system (which replaced the magazine).

Re: Hong Kong pilots sacked for trying to take off on airport ..

how can a pilot mistaken a taxiway for a runway anyway? i mean, the lighting can't be the cause right?

it's more like pilots get bored travelling the whole runway length of taxiway and they decide to speed up and get to the other end faster? i don't know, sounds like Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Re: Boeing 787 Delayed An Additional 6 Months.

According to a blogger on James Wallis, the wing of the static test plane has started to de-laminate. Wonder if this contributed to what IMO was a strange move to take the plane out of the testing rig for repainting. I hope for all concerned this is nothing more than a mischeivous rumour. Its the l...

Re: Boeing 787 Delayed An Additional 6 Months.

I agree that this delay gives airlines/customers a breathe, yes it's true because they're going to get compensation (in other words money) for it, and that's what they need! I wonder if some airlines knew in advance this would happen and sign for huge numbers of 787 to get huge compensation from its...

Re: Will the 787 fly?

Airbus and Boeing build all their current aircraft(sans 787) using panels, its just the material change at issue. CX, did you know that the A380 has more composite structure by weight and area than a 787. Airbus are very well versed in composites, and the A400M is a composite airframe, just needs e...

Re: Will the 787 fly?

It's hard to believe that all the deep inside knowledge of Airbus and Boeing seem to be known, I just can't believe it. It's pretty simple, there are true or false rumours out there stating there are problems with the 787 frame. Airbus opted for panels (which they also had no experience or knowledge...

Re: CX orders A380

They can change their minds... The 744s will need to be replaced some time, and with their volume i don't think 773ERs can do everything, while if you look at SIA, there don't seem to be a point to get 748s over A380s, unless they made a mistake. I think it's likely they'll get their hands on some A...

Re: CX orders A380

A bit surprised to see any orders during such an economic downturn, but it's good that CX ordered the beast, and quite surely enough the A350 is a better plane for them than the 787 it would seem, at least judging by what they have at the moment.

I caught my own error. My applogies to Mr. Clark for mixing him up with Dixon of Qantas. I guess if they wanted to, SIA can change the cabin into a full economy and offer seats at half the price of a 787.. it might happen, Airbus' interior are easily re-configured. Anyhow there are so many ultra ri...

OK so those few hundred 787 orders before the 787 was assembled, those airlines were idiots because Boeing has not built the frame yet so they don't know how much it weighs? I don't know what computers or simulations are for if that's the case. Airbus DID not listen before, but they do now.. you hav...

Wiring for a relatively small plane cannot cause too many issues. And Boeing will surely keep their suppliers happy, inject them with some cash or something if their liquidity is too low. IMO their schedule, even their production ramp up is too ambitious. In the longer term they will achieve it, but...

I still think both have equal chance. The 787-10 capacity is ideal for them and if they do not intend to replace (which they don't need to) 773ERs, then they don't really need the XWB-1000. But of course the XWB has 3 different sizes to choose from, and while 787 will also have 3, 787-3/8 will most ...

Emirates has been giving ALOT comments on both 787-10 and the XWB and it seemed like they'll order both but in reality they'll just order one kind.. I still think they'll order 748Is, afterall if their A380s are going to be 600 seaters (with some of them potentially converted to the larger variant i...

I don't understand why it is always highlighted that Airbus is offering XWBs with a clause that customers can cancel it if it doesn't meet guarantees.. Isn't this standard procedure? I doubt airlines are ordering Boeing jets with no similar clauses.. The XWB is a response to customer, it is not shak...
