Lifesaving skies: Stockholm partners with Everdrone for emergency response

Share

In a significant move for public safety, Everdrone has signed a strategic agreement with the Ambulance Services Administration of Region Stockholm. The partnership focuses on deploying autonomous drone systems to provide rapid medical intervention and real-time situational awareness across the Swedish capital.

Seconds Matter: The Role of the Drone

The drone system is designed to complement traditional emergency services by arriving on-site ahead of ground ambulances. Its primary functions include:

  • Defibrillator Delivery: Rapidly transporting Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to the scene of suspected cardiac arrests to bridge the critical gap before paramedics arrive.

  • Situational Awareness: Providing live video feeds of accident sites or acute incidents, allowing dispatchers and emergency crews to better assess the scene and allocate resources effectively.

Implementation Timeline

The partnership follows a successful long-term project in the Västra Götaland region and will follow a structured rollout in Stockholm:

  • Analysis Phase: Comprehensive reviews of previous incident data and airspace availability have already been conducted to optimize drone placement.

  • Testing & Deployment: The system will undergo rigorous testing before transitioning to full operational deployment during 2026.

  • Agreement Duration: The current contract is set to run until Spring 2027.

Strengthening Society’s Preparedness

Everdrone CEO Mats Sällström highlighted that this agreement reflects a growing shift toward integrating autonomous technology into the healthcare infrastructure. By utilizing drones as a “first-on-scene” asset, Region Stockholm aims to improve survival rates in life-threatening situations and provide enhanced decision support for first responders.

Note: Emergency medical drone programs are intended to support, not replace, traditional ambulance services. In any medical emergency, the first step remains contacting local emergency services immediately.
