American company US Aerospace Associates LLC has acquired the remaining assets of WOW Air, Michele Ballarin, chairman of the company explained in a press release. On 28 March, the Icelandic airline ceased operations. News of Ballarin’s interest in restoring the airline emerged this Summer.
WOW Air 2.0 will be based in Washington Dulles Airport (IAD), the airline’s first flight after its demise is expected in October, from Washington Dulles to Reykjavik, Iceland.
Ballarin has reportedly spent a good time in Iceland. There, she gained a “better understanding of the value of the country’s location for air transport, as well as the value of the country as a tourist destination.”
The new WOW Air is not related to WAB Air (We Are Back), where two former executives from WOW Air are hoping to start a new airline based in Iceland.
