Waterford Airport disappointed at VLM Airlines’ decision to withdraw Birmingham service

Waterford Airport has expressed disappointment at the decision of VLM Airlines to discontinue the Waterford-Birmingham route from early next month. The route is due to cease on Monday, May 2nd next, and started only last year.

However, VLM Airlines will continue to operate a seven days a week daily service that connects Waterford and London Luton.

Desmond O’Flynn, CEO, Waterford Airport said: “We’re obviously disappointed by this decision. It is particularly unfortunate that the withdrawal of service comes just before the peak summer season. We usually have a strong increase in leisure passengers which more than offsets any fall-off in business travel during the summer holiday months.

“At the same time, we want to acknowledge the hard work and effort put in by our colleagues at Birmingham Airport as well as the many stakeholders that have supported the service through various promotions and other activities both here and in the UK,” he continued.

“I would once again encourage everyone travelling from Waterford and the wider South East region to the UK to think Waterford first and visit www.flyvlm.com to see if there is a Waterford-Luton service that can match their travel plans and schedule.

“Similarly, if you are in touch with family, friends or business colleagues in the UK who are coming to the South East, please advise them to check for direct flights to Waterford. The convenience and ease of flying through Waterford Airport remains unbeatable.”
