VIM Airlines’ AOC might be suspended in two weeks

Russian news agency TASS is reporting that the air operator’s certificate of Russian VIM Airlines (VIM-AVIA) might get suspended in two weeks. A source close to the situation was very clear: “In two weeks time the airline will not exist anymore”.

Meanwhile Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev are taking a closer look at the many delays and cancellations of the airline.

Vladimir Putin criticised Minister of Transport Maxim Sokolov and the Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich for paying too little attention to the transport industry: on 26 September Minister Sokolov confirmed to President Putin that VIM Airlines “fully complied with the criteria imposed on carriers“. (Note from editor: VIM Airlines already suffered from cancellations and delays).

The criteria that you have developed are useless“, President Putin told in a meeting with members of the government. “You haven’t paid enough attention to the transport sector, are you overworked ?“, he added. President Putin concluded that tens of thousands passengers are stranded or unable to fly and a solution must be found to create conditions for a normal conduct of business.

Meanwhile a criminal investigation into theft of passengers’ money by VIM Airlines officials has been launched. The investigation is ongoing.

For tomorrow, VIM Airlines had scheduled flights to Changsha and Zhengzhou (via Moscow) from Liège Airport, it’s uncertain whether these flights will operate.
