Among the airlines , that realised many dreams, Sabena belonged to the top for decades. Their slogan You’re in good hands promised to rhyme transport with comfort. The exhibition Sabena. Travel in Style immerses you in the enchanting world of SABENA, the Belgian World Airlines.
Without nostalgia or bias, the exhibition reveals the history, founded in 1923 under the acronym Société Anonyme Belge d’Exploitation de la Navigation Aérienne. SABENA was the third oldest airline of the world. The exhibition shows the beginning in the airport of Haren until the abrupt ending in 2001, their international developments in the four continents and their regional helicopter network.Special attention to the leading players in this extraordinary adventure, they called themselves the Sabéniens, showing their commitment to the company.

Zonder nostalgie of vooroordelen overloopt de expositie de geschiedenis van SABENA, opgericht in 1923 onder het acroniem Société Anonyme Belge d’Exploitation de la Navigation Aérienne : SABENA was de derde oudste luchtvaartmaatschappij ter wereld sinds de start op de luchthaven van Haren, tot het abrupte einde in 2001. We zien haar internationale ontwikkelingen over de vier continenten en de uitbouw van haar regionaal helikopternetwerk. De tentoonstelling toont originele voorwerpen en verschillende vliegtuigmaquettes, uniformen, affiches, foto’s, archiefvideo’s, enkele gadgets en andere souvenirs uit zowel publieke als privécollecties. Dit alles illustreert de 78 jaren van deze commerciële luchtvaartmaatschappij. Bijzondere aandacht gaat ook naar de belangrijkste spelers van dit uitzonderlijke avontuur, de werknemers, ze noemden zichzelf de Sabéniens, een bewijs van grote verbondenheid met het bedrijf. De tentoonstelling reconstrueert de volledige belevenis vanaf het inchecken, het onthaal tot de vlucht zelf. Inclusief de service en het comfort die ervoor zorgden dat deze ervaring exclusief was voorbehouden voor de elite. L’exposition Voyager glamour vous propose un plongeon dans l’univers feutré et enchanteur de la SABENA, la Belgian World Airlines. Sans nostalgie ni parti pris, l’exposition parcourt l’histoire de celle qui, fondée dès 1923 sous l’acronyme de Société Anonyme Belge d’Exploitation de la Navigation Aérienne, fut – jusqu’à sa disparition – la 3e plus vieille compagnie aérienne du monde; depuis ses débuts à l’aéroport de Haren à sa fin brutale en 2001, en passant par son déploiement international sur 4 continents et son réseau régional en hélicoptères. La présence d’objets originaux, tels des maquettes d’appareil, des uniformes, des affiches, des photographies, des vidéos d’archive ou encore des gadgets et autres souvenirs provenant de collections privées ou publiques, illustrent les 78 ans d’exploitation de ce fleuron de l’aviation commerciale. Une attention particulière est également portée à ceux et celles qui ont été les acteurs de premier plan de cette extraordinaire aventure et qui s’appelaient eux-mêmes les Sabéniens, témoignant ainsi leur attachement à la compagnie. La scénographie reproduit tour à tour le comptoir d’enregistrement, l’accueil à bord, la vie en vol avec sa débauche de services et de confort qui faisaient de cette expérience un moment tout à fait exclusif réservé à l’élite.
