Air France has launched Joon, the low-cost airline “with a new generation travel experience”

Today Joon, the new airline by Air France has presented its newly painted Airbus A320 (video below). From tomorrow the French airline will start flying to Barcelona, Berlin, Lisbon and Porto from Paris CDG.

The interior of the A320 doesn’t seem to have much difference compared with the interior of the medium-haul fleet of big sister Air France. At Joon you will be able to book both business and economy class, all the seats are equipped with an in-seat power port. The airline is also offering an in-flight video streaming service called “You Joon” through an internal server.

“The 140 Joon flight attendants and qualified pilots from Air France will provide their customers with a new generation travel experience departing from Paris-CDG.

During the presentation the airline announced seven more destinations from March 2018: Rome, Naples, Oslo and Istanbul on medium-haul and three more destinations on long-haul: Cairo, Cape Town and Tehran. The first booking results show a “positive result” for  medium-haul flights while the bookings on long-haul flights have been announced as “very promising“.

  • Istanbul (Turkey): 7 weekly flights
  • Naples (Italy): 14 weekly flights
  • Oslo (Norway): 18 weekly flights
  • Rome (Italy): 49 weekly flights

On departure from Paris-CDG, Joon will fly to its medium-haul destinations by Airbus A320 (174 seats) and A321 (212 seats). “In Business class, Joon offers a free meal, snacks and beverages!

  • Cairo (Egypt): 7 weekly flights as from 25 March 2018
  • Cape Town (South Africa): 3 weekly flights as from 1st April 2018
  • Tehran (Iran): 3 weekly flights as from 2 April 2018

On departure from Paris-CDG, Business, Premium Economy and Economy customers will benefit from new cabins on board the Airbus A340s equipped with the latest-generation individual touch-screens to enjoy some one hundred films. Joon’s Business customers will enjoy a free catering offer, from starter to dessert, including snacks. In Premium Economy and Economy class, one or even two meals will be offered on the longest flights. In addition, Joon will offer a selection of gourmet products as a paid option.

In total, for the 2018 summer season, Joon will fly to 13 destinations with 228 flights a week from Paris-CDG – Barcelona, Berlin, Istanbul, Lisbon, Naples, Oslo, Porto and Rome on the medium-haul network and Fortaleza, Cairo, Cape Town, Mahé and Tehran on the long-haul network.

Looking at the catering concept for economy class medium-haul (menu card, the possibility to buy on board, …) there doesn’t seem much difference from other carriers like Ryanair or easyJet (except a free selection of beverages at any time of the day). Joon offers 60 different -mostly French- products while 20% of the offer is organic food (bio).

For its business class medium-haul the airline sticks with the Air France business class concept.
