Stobart Air, a Flybe franchise partner, increases its capacity to London Southend to compensate the loss of the London City route operated by VLM.

Last Friday, 31 August 2018, SHS Aviation B.V., the majority shareholder of the N.V. SHS Antwerp Aviation (VLM), decided at an extraordinary general assembly to dissolve and liquidate the Belgian airline.

Unfortunately, the longstanding connection between Antwerp and London City was also affected and will no longer be served. To compensate for this loss, Stobart Air, a Flybe franchise partner, will increase the flights between Antwerp and London Southend to daily (except Saturday).

This means a 50% increase in capacity on this route and shows a high level of commitment to this route and to Antwerp Airport. Travellers to London can book this alternative with Flybe from Tuesday, September 4, 2018. The extra flights are also available at www.flybe.com.

Ciaran Smith, Network Development Manager at Stobart Air, said: “The increase in frequency is a direct reflection of the demand from our customers. We are very happy that we can offer our customers more flights and that we can continue to build on our great relationship with Antwerp Airport“.

London Southend Airport has its own direct train connection to the heart of London with fast and frequent train services, up to eight trains per hour. The journey time to Stratford is about 45 minutes and to London Liverpool Street about 51 minutes.

Flybe also offers fast and convenient connections of less than one hour to Dublin, Manchester and Glasgow via London Southend airport! With an average waiting time of 5 minutes at the check-in and a waiting time of 3 minutes at the Security control, London Southend is the favourite airport of the capital and was elected by consumer association “Which?” best airport in London for the fifth year in a row.
