The Belgian airline has announced that it has received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from Belgian aviation authorities and that the first flight will take off on 9 September 2019 to London City Airport.
Following the reception of its AOC, the Belgian Airline announced the launch of its first flights.
Sixteen flights per week will link Antwerp and London City Airport, as from 9 September 2019, when OO-VLS, the 50-seater Fokker F-50 of Air Antwerp, takes off for the first revenue service under the Air Antwerp colour scheme.
The schedule provides for three flights per day on weekdays, no flights on Saturday and one flight on Sunday. In addition, Air Antwerp has concluded a codeshare agreement with KLM on this route.
Johan Maertens, CEO of Air Antwerp, stated: “Obtaining the AOC is an important milestone in the early history of our airline. I gladly take the opportunity to thank our team for their dedication and professionalism with respect to the preparation and handling of our AOC application. My sincere appreciation and thanks also go to the teams of the Belgian Civil Aviation Authority and the Federal Public Service Mobility for the excellent collaboration during the application process.”
He added: “Business travellers will finally be able to fly again from the centre of London to Antwerp. Also for the Antwerp business world – in particular, the diamond industry and the port community – it is good news that there is again a direct link to the London Docklands.”
Ticket sales will start next week via www.airantwerp.com and www.klm.com.
The new Air Antwerp flights from 9 September mean that there will be only one week without service between Antwerp and London, since Flybe stops its Antwerp-Southend route end August.
