Aigle Azur, France’s second biggest airline, is going to suspend operations tomorrow, 6 September at 23:59 (UTC+2). The airline is facing financial difficulties and went into receivership on 2 September.
In an internal mail to its 1,150 employees, the airline announced the sad news. From Saturday, all flights have been cancelled.
Since last month, Aigle Azur faced financial difficulties, which resulted in a filing for bankruptcy, the subsequent booking system closure as from 10 September and the strange resignation of their CEO. The airline also unexpectedly closed routes to Portugal, Ukraine, Mali and Brazil. The airline is looking for potential buyers until Monday, 9 September.
Aigle Azur employs 1,150 people, including 350 in Algeria. The airline’s fleet of 11 aircraft are going to be stationed at the airports of Paris-Orly and Châteauroux.
