Amadeus and Lufthansa have successfully tested the EU Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet), a government-issued digital wallet set to launch in 2026 that securely stores passports, ID cards, payment methods, and biometric profiles. The trials, part of an EU-backed pilot, demonstrated one-click or tap use for online check-in, bag drop, boarding, and biometric enrolment, removing the need for repeated document scans.

Future testing in 2025 will expand to airport security and border control, where travellers could tap their phone instead of scanning a passport. The wallet will also support secure payments at airport touchpoints.

Amadeus has enhanced its Travel Ready platform to ensure compatibility with the EUDI Wallet and other digital wallets, focusing on privacy, security, and user control of data. Industry leaders stress that digital identity is key to seamless travel, with the potential to speed up airport processes and improve the passenger experience significantly.

Both organisations see the wallet as a step toward fully digitalised, interoperable travel, enabling passengers to move through their journeys faster and with greater convenience.
