Aviapartner, Europe’s leading ground-handling service provider, will be adding more than 100 new employees across all divisions at their Brussels hub, as the company gears up for what promises to be a busy summer.
New partnerships with the likes of Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways and Norwegian will add significant volume to daily operations at Brussels Airport, where Aviapartner provides comprehensive handling services to over 40 airlines in total.
Formerly known as Belgavia, Aviapartner was founded in 1949 and has since become a leading player in the global aviation industry. The company is currently active in over 70 airports across 10 countries, helping more than 75 million passengers reach their destination every year.
Brussels Airport remains Aviapartner Belgium’s home base and largest station, and it is there the focus of this latest hiring campaign will be. Aviapartner are looking at a wide range of profiles, including Check-in Agents, Tarmac Operators and Bagage Operators.
Passengers will be most familiar with the Check-in Agents , who ensure the entire boarding procedure runs smoothly. These agents represent Aviapartner and the airlines to the passenger directly, and are required to be strong communicators with excellent people skills.
“The job comes with a lot of responsibility,” says Karoline, an experienced Check-in Agent. “Safety, security and punctuality are all key. Planes have to leave on time, and do so safely. A plane is not like a train, we can’t just close the doors and send it on its way.”
Her colleague Karim adds: “You really improve your language skills through daily use. I’ve been able to improve consistently since I’ve joined Aviapartner. Passengers will often approach us with questions during our tasks. You’re always switching between languages, sometimes you’ll use as many as four in the space of 10 minutes while walking to a gate.”
Experience is not a prerequisite to apply for the position of Check-in Agent, but a thorough handle on the Dutch, French and English languages are required.
Tarmac Operators work in and around the airplane, providing a whole host of services that include the loading and unloading of luggage, towing and pushbacking the aircraft, and de-icing. Aviapartner provide all their training in-house, meaning all these skills can and will be learned on the job.
Baggage Operators ensure all luggage and other cargo arrive at the aircraft on time. Their tasks include sorting and distributing both incoming and outgoing goods, as well as driving the luggage out to the plane.
Tarmac Operator Niels highlights how everyone plays a key role in the process: “From Check-in Agent to Tarmac Operator, we are one team and share the responsibility of making sure flights leave on time. We’re all a real part of the flow. I still get goosebumps at the end of the day, knowing I played my part.
Depending on the position, Aviapartner can offer an immediate permanent contract or a temporary contract of 65 days that will be turned into a permanent contract if both parties agree. Unlike many of its colleagues and competitors, Aviapartner’s activities are impacted less by the seasonal nature of air travel, meaning their workers are employed year round. The company was recently awarded new seven-year licences to continue its Ground Handling and Cargo operations in Brussels.
New recruits will be paid from the very first day of their thorough training program, and can expect ample opportunities for growth within the company. Interested candidates can see the full list of vacancies on Aviapartner’s official jobsite by clicking here.
