Star Alliance is marking its 29th anniversary by highlighting its continued push to make multi-airline travel smoother and more connected across its global network.
Founded in 1997 as the world’s first global airline alliance, Star Alliance now includes 26 member airlines serving more than 1,150 airports in 190 countries. The recent integration of ITA Airways has expanded connectivity across Italy and Europe, giving travellers more routing options within the alliance.
The alliance says its member carriers are increasingly coordinating systems, services and passenger touchpoints to create more seamless journeys, particularly for customers transferring between different airlines.
Recent initiatives include the opening of a new Star Alliance lounge at Guangzhou Terminal 3 and the continued expansion of Star Connection Centres at major hubs such as Los Angeles International Airport, designed to improve transfer support for connecting passengers.
Star Alliance also highlighted several recent industry awards. At the Skytrax World Airline Awards, it was named World’s Best Airline Alliance for the fourth consecutive year, while its lounge at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport retained the title of World’s Best Airline Alliance Lounge for a second straight year. The alliance was also recognised as the World’s Leading Airline Alliance at the World Travel Awards for the sixth consecutive year.
