Zurich Airport handled 3.03 million passengers in May 2026, representing a 9.1% increase compared with May 2025 and continuing the airport’s strong growth trajectory.
Local passengers accounted for 2.22 million travellers, while transfer passengers totalled approximately 802,000, representing 26.5% of all passenger traffic.
Aircraft movements increased by 5.1% year-on-year to 25,318 take-offs and landings. Passenger demand remained robust, with the average number of passengers per flight rising by 3.4% to 134.3. The average seat load factor also improved, reaching 79.7%, up 2.8 percentage points from a year earlier.
Cargo activity showed modest growth. Freight volumes totalled 37,369 tonnes during May, an increase of 1.2% compared with the same month in 2025.
The figures indicate that passenger traffic is continuing to grow faster than flight movements, resulting in fuller aircraft and improved operational efficiency at Zurich Airport.
