New season – new flights at Warsaw Chopin Airport

The new Summmer 2015 flight timetable, introduced from Sunday 29 March, sees nine new flights to and from Chopin Airport.

WizzAir has announced seven new routes. Starting 29 March, the Hungarian airline flies to Dortmund (four times a week) and Larnaca (twice a week) and, as of 30 March, also to Lisbon (twice a week). 4 April will see the introduction of services to Alicante and Catania (once weekly) and to Malta (twice a week). Starting 25 June, WizzAir will also be flying to Stavanger (three times a week). On 1 June, new once-weekly flights to Malaga will be launched by Czech airline Smartwings. And, finally, on 3 July, Transavia will make its debut at Chopin Airport, with three weekly flights to Paris.

Rados?aw Paruzel, deputy director of Chopin Airport, said: “So far, airlines have announced nine new routes, but we know that more are being planned. Remember that in the last winter season Warsaw boasted an extensive route network of as many as 87 destinations, whereas in the last few winter seasons before that it had only been possible to fly directly to about 60 destinations. The difference between the winter and the summer won’t be great, but this only shows that we are developing our offer in a consistent and well thought-through manner”.

Due to the liquidation of Eurolot, Chopin Airport’s route network will shrink by three destinations previously served by the airline: Bydgoszcz, Lublin (already cut in February) and Stuttgart. Flights to Kishinev and Zagreb have been taken over by LOT Polish Airlines, while other destinations operated independently by Eurolot in the previous summer season, such as Dubrovnik, Heringsdorf, Split or Zadar, will not be launched at all.

WizzAir has cut Grenoble, Turin and Verona from its current schedule, Air Cargo axed scheduled services to Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh and Smartwings will no longer offer scheduled flights to the Canary Islands (Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife).
