On Sunday 17 March, a fire broke out in in a store at Toronto Pearson’s Terminal 1. Emergency services rushed to the scene, while passengers were evacuated from the affected area. A few patients were treated by paramedics for smoke related injuries. No other injuries have been reported. The fire was quickly extinguished however a significant amount of water and smoke filled the terminal. (see footage below)

While crews worked to clean up the damage and tried to restore normal operations at the airport, airlines were forced to delay and cancel a large number of flights. The airport authorities cancelled all flights to the U.S. scheduled to depart from Terminal 1. The airport said that “both Terminals 1 and 3 are operating normally, with the exception of Terminal 1 departures to the United States, where some delays may be experienced. Please check your flight status with your airline before leaving for the airport.
