Near-miss over Skavsta triggers investigation after TCAS alert and crew injury

Share

A serious near-collision between a Norwegian Boeing 737-800 and two Swedish Air Force JAS 39 Gripen jets occurred on 18 June 2025 during the passenger aircraft’s approach to Skavsta Airport.

The Boeing’s TCAS collision avoidance system was activated, prompting an evasive manoeuvre that resulted in a flight attendant falling and breaking her foot. There were 125 people on board the passenger flight.

Due to the serious injury, the Swedish Accident Investigation Board has launched a formal investigation. Investigator Mats Trense said the findings could lead to revised procedures, particularly as military flight activity in shared airspace is expected to increase in the coming years. The investigation is expected to conclude before the summer.
