Stockholm Arlanda Airport has added Armand “Mondo” Duplantis, the pole vault world record holder, to its iconic “Welcome to my hometown” portrait gallery — a beloved feature in the airport’s baggage halls that has greeted travellers for 20 years.
Duplantis unveiled his portrait on Tuesday alongside Karl Eklund, Swedavia’s Airport Director at Arlanda.
“I am incredibly happy to be part of the ‘Welcome to my hometown’ gallery at Arlanda. Seeing all the other fantastic Swedes there is a great honour, and I’m proud to welcome all travellers to Stockholm,” said Armand Duplantis.
Chosen earlier this year by a jury including representatives from Swedavia, Stockholm Business Region, and the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, Duplantis is one of two new additions in 2025, following Benjamin Ingrosso earlier this spring. The gallery honours people who have made outstanding contributions to the Stockholm and Uppsala regions in areas such as sport, culture, innovation, and business.
“We’re delighted to welcome Armand Duplantis to Arlanda and the ‘Welcome to my hometown’ gallery,” said Karl Eklund. “It’s a cherished tradition that lets returning Swedes feel proud of their country and gives visitors a glimpse into Swedish talent and values. Armand is not only a phenomenal athlete but a true role model whose passion and charisma inspire people across generations.”
Since its launch in 2005, “Welcome to my hometown” has featured 88 portraits displayed in the baggage halls of Terminals 2 and 5. The ongoing update of the gallery highlights Sweden’s evolving creative, athletic, and cultural landscape, celebrating individuals whose achievements reflect Swedavia’s values of being welcoming, reliable, innovative, and committed.
