Shannon Airport handled more than 2.3 million passengers in 2025, marking its busiest year in 16 years and underscoring a period of sustained growth driven by new routes, investment, and operational expansion.
Passenger growth was supported by route development and increased airline capacity, most notably Ryanair’s addition of a fourth based aircraft, representing a further USD 100 million regional investment. New destinations launched in 2025 included Madeira, Lapland and Madrid, alongside increased frequencies on more than ten existing routes. Aer Lingus also boosted capacity, including on its Boston service.
Looking ahead to 2026, Shannon Airport will operate 40 routes across Europe, the UK and the United States—the highest number in 17 years. Five new summer routes will be added: Rome, Warsaw, Madrid and Poznan with Ryanair, and Frankfurt with Discover Airlines.
Infrastructure and sustainability remain central to the airport’s strategy. More than €40 million in investments are planned for 2026, including a full upgrade of immigration and baggage halls, taxiway improvements, and a thermal upgrade of the arrivals area to support energy efficiency targets. In 2025 alone, over €20 million was invested, bringing total group investment to nearly €200 million over the past decade.
Beyond aviation, The Shannon Airport Group continued to expand its business park and innovation ecosystem. Over one million square feet of commercial space has been developed in the past ten years, with a further 100,000 square feet of energy-efficient industrial space coming online in 2026. Notable developments included the launch of a dedicated EU–US life sciences air corridor and the arrival of advanced technology and R&D tenants.
The year also marked the 80th anniversary of the first scheduled transatlantic passenger flight landing at Shannon in 1945, alongside multiple industry awards and strong community engagement.
Management described 2025 as a “really positive year,” positioning Shannon Airport for further growth in 2026 through expanded connectivity, continued infrastructure investment, and a focus on sustainability and passenger experience.
