Shannon Airport is set to expand its international reach with the launch of a new direct service to Frankfurt, operated by Discover Airlines.
The inaugural flight departs on April 25, marking the start of a weekly service running through October 24. With a flight time of around two hours, the route provides passengers in western Ireland with direct access to one of Europe’s most important aviation hubs.
From Frankfurt, travellers can connect seamlessly to a wide network of destinations across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, supported by coordinated flight and rail links. The midday departure from Shannon is designed to facilitate smooth onward connections later in the day.
Beyond its role as a global transit hub, Frankfurt is also a major financial centre and a popular destination for short city breaks, offering a mix of modern architecture, cultural attractions, and riverside leisure.
The new service is expected to support both outbound travel and inbound tourism, particularly along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. Airport officials highlight Germany as a key source market, with the route providing easier access for visitors to the west coast and supporting local businesses in the region.
Discover Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, operates a growing fleet of Airbus aircraft and specialises in connecting European hubs with leisure destinations worldwide. The addition of the Shannon–Frankfurt route reflects broader efforts to strengthen regional connectivity and expand travel options beyond major capital airports.
