Costa Rica suspended all flights nationwide on Wednesday morning after an electrical failure knocked out the radar system at both Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José and Guanacaste Airport.

The outage began around 05:30, forcing authorities to close the country’s airspace from 06:00 to noon. Several flights were delayed, cancelled, or diverted abroad, including an Alaska Airlines flight from Los Angeles that was rerouted to Guatemala.

Airports quickly became crowded as airlines urged passengers to check official channels for updates while technicians worked to restore the system.
