Rzeszow and Lublin airports in southeastern Poland temporarily suspended operations on Saturday morning as a precaution during Russian strikes on nearby Ukrainian territory, Polish officials said.
Both cities are near Poland’s border with Ukraine, with Rzeszow serving as NATO’s main hub for arms supplies to Ukraine. The closures allowed military aircraft to operate freely in Polish airspace, according to the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
“These actions are of a preventive nature and are aimed at securing and protecting the airspace, particularly in areas adjacent to the threatened regions,” the army said on X. Flight tracking service FlightRadar24 noted that NATO aircraft were involved in the operation.
The Polish army confirmed there was no violation of national airspace, and military operations concluded by 8 a.m. local time. The Polish Air Navigation Services Agency announced that flights at both airports had resumed before 9 a.m.
Rzeszow and Lublin had previously suspended operations for a time last month under similar circumstances. Authorities emphasized that the military activity was routine and posed no threat to Polish airspace.
