The global aviation community is honouring Saudara Anthonius Gunawan Agung, the Air Traffic Controller who heroically gave his life during the earthquakes near Palu to guarantee the safe departure of a flight. On 28 September, a powerful earthquake of 7.7 magnitude hit the Indonesian city of Palu, on the Sulawesi island. A subsequent tsunami slammed into the city, were the earthquake already destroyed many buildings, including parts of the airport.
Anthonius was on duty in the air traffic control the moment the earthquake struck the island and safely guided the very last aircraft out to safety.
