According to AENA, the closure had been scheduled in advance to avoid disruption, and no commercial flight movements needed to be rescheduled. Typically, Palma handles about 25 flight operations per hour, but around 60 flights were planned during the affected time window this Friday.
The Air Force remains in close contact with AENA and emergency services (112) amid forecasts of possible storms that could force the event’s cancellation. The final decision will depend on weather assessments by the base’s command.
The program features aerial demonstrations by several combat aircraft, including an F-18 Hornet, which conducted rehearsal flights on Friday. These manoeuvres caused delays exceeding one hour on some commercial routes to Palma, with one Barcelona flight reporting a two-hour delay as it waited for the fighter jet to clear the airspace.
