The Florida Senate has approved legislation to rename Palm Beach International Airport after U.S. President Donald J. Trump, moving the proposal one step closer to becoming law.
If signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the airport would be officially renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport.
The bill passed the Florida Senate with a 25–11 vote, following earlier approval in the Florida House of Representatives by an 81–30 margin.
During the debate, Republican State Senator Danny Burgess defended the proposal, stating that future generations would recognise what Trump “has done to save America.” Republican lawmakers broadly supported the measure, while Democrats voiced strong opposition.
Democratic Congresswoman Lois Frankel, who represents West Palm Beach, criticised the move, arguing that the Republican majority was ignoring the voice of Palm Beach County residents by advancing the change without meaningful local input.
The bill now awaits the decision of Governor DeSantis, who has not yet indicated whether he will sign it into law.
Palm Beach International Airport, located in South Florida, serves as a key gateway to the region and handles millions of passengers annually.
