After the summer months of July, August and September have set a new record in passenger numbers, Ostend Airport is breaking a new record in October with 40,818 passengers. Last year that same month, there were 37 580 passengers. A growth of 8.6%.
Therefore, the growth fits in seamlessly with the past busy summer months. This good result is the direct consequence of a significant increase in the number of charter flights, including for the European football competitions. In addition, there was a significant increase in the number of passengers on business jets this month. Since the opening of the brand new business NSAC terminal, we have noticed major leaps forward in the number of movements and passenger numbers in this business segment.
The winter season has also started. The airport offers a great alternative to escape the grey weather with a range of flights to the Spanish Costas and sunny Egypt.
The cargo volume still follows the global downward trend. The volume that was transported via the airport also remained under pressure in October. Over the period from January to the end of October, the volume was 15.6% below the level of last year. We expect this trend to continue for a while.
The airport of Ostend can again boast excellent figures for the month of October in terms of punctuality on departure. Last month, it again recorded a strong result in terms of “on-time performance” (OTP) with a score of 97.3%.
