Oslo Airport will remain open as normal during the funeral of King Harald V on Wednesday 9 September, but Avinor warns that extensive VIP traffic could affect scheduled flights, particularly during the morning.
A large number of foreign royal, government and official delegations are expected to arrive at Oslo Gardermoen Airport before the funeral. Avinor is making the necessary operational arrangements on behalf of Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs but cannot disclose details for security reasons.
Passengers are advised to arrive in good time, monitor information from their airline and allow additional time when travelling to or from the airport. Airlines will contact travellers directly if flights are cancelled or if schedules are changed.
Road access may also be disrupted by official motorcades. Sections of the E6 between Gardermoen and central Oslo could be partially or completely closed for limited periods, while much of central Oslo will be inaccessible by car. Public transport to the airport is expected to operate normally.
The funeral service will begin at Oslo Cathedral at 13:00. Avinor described the period surrounding the ceremony as “extraordinary days” for Oslo Airport, with increased activity expected before, during and immediately after the funeral.
