The Danish Transport Authority has temporarily suspended international security screening at Nuuk Airport, forcing passengers to reroute via Kangerlussuaq or Narsarsuaq for screening before continuing abroad, typically to Copenhagen.
According to Greenland Airports, the suspension stems from the training of security staff not fully meeting regulatory requirements for international screening. Domestic flight certification remains unaffected.
As a result, international travellers from Nuuk are currently treated as domestic passengers until they reach one of the approved airports, where proper screening can be conducted. Airlines, including Air Greenland, are contacting affected passengers with updated travel instructions.
Greenland Airports said it is working intensively with the Danish Transport Authority to resolve the issue and restore international operations “as soon as possible.” The setback follows previous disruptions linked to Nuuk Airport’s security readiness, which has already caused delays in openings and flight operations.

Further information: yesterday, the United Airlines flight from Newark made a U-turn and flew back to the U.S., and today’s SAS flight from Copenhagen was cancelled.
UPDATE
Nuuk Airport to reopen international security checks with Danish support
Security screening for international passengers at Nuuk Airport will resume on Thursday, after Danish-certified staff were flown in to assist. The suspension, imposed last week by the Danish Transport Authority due to inadequate training standards, had forced travellers to reroute via Kangerlussuaq or Narsarsuaq, causing delays and cancellations. Greenland Airports says its own staff will be able to return to duty within days and expressed regret for the disruption. Airlines, including Air Greenland, are informing affected passengers as normal operations are gradually resuming.
